EdgeOptic's F5-UPG-VEL-QSFP+LR4 compatible is an F5-coded version of the EdgeOptic 40G-QSFP-10 multi-vendor 40GBASE-LR4 transceiver. The VEL prefix designates the VELOS field-upgrade channel, and F5 also lists this part as OPT-0030. It is a QSFP+ module for 40 Gigabit Ethernet over single-mode fiber at distances up to 10 km, coded with F5-recognized EEPROM identifiers so it is accepted on VELOS BX110 blade QSFP+ ports.

The module carries 40G Ethernet at 41.25 Gbps across four NRZ lanes on a CWDM4 grid at 1271, 1291, 1311 and 1331 nm. It uses DFB lasers and a PIN photodiode, with per-lane launch power from −6 to +3 dBm and receiver sensitivity of −12.6 dBm per lane. The 6.6 dB link budget supports a 10 km reach over G.652 single-mode fiber with a duplex LC connector. Receiver overload is +3 dBm, and the module runs across a 0 to 70 °C case temperature range. Digital optical monitoring reports temperature, supply voltage, laser bias and optical power in real time.

F5 VELOS is an application delivery controller chassis, so this is an Ethernet-only optic.
