F5 Networks compatible OPT-0031-xx Description
EdgeOptic's OPT-0031-xx compatible is an F5 Networks-coded 100GBASE-SR4 version of the EdgeOptic 100G-QSFP28-100 multi-vendor 100GBASE-SR4 transceiver, one universal short-reach module coded for a range of switch and router vendors. It runs 100G Ethernet over four parallel 850 nm VCSEL lanes at 25G each across multimode fiber, terminated on an MTP/MPO-12 (UPC) connector using 8 active fibers, 4 transmit and 4 receive. The transceiver port is female (unpinned); the patch cable is the pinned male side, so transceiver-to-transceiver runs need a male-to-male Type B MPO assembly. Reach is 70 m over OM3 and 100 m over OM4, per IEEE 802.3bm Clause 95.
Optical specifications include a 1.9 dB average link budget, receiver sensitivity of −10.3 dBm per lane, NRZ modulation, and no FEC at this reach. The transmitter uses 850 nm VCSEL lasers; the receiver is a PIN photodiode. The host electrical interface is CAUI-4. OM4 supports the full 100 m while OM3 is rated to 70 m, with achievable distance depending on patch panels, splices, and connector cleanliness in the installed link. DDM/DOM is supported through the 2-wire I2C interface, so the host can read per-lane transmit power, receive power, and bias along with module-level temperature and voltage. The module operates across the 0°C to 70°C commercial range, draws up to 3.5 W within the QSFP28 envelope, and is compliant with the QSFP28 MSA and SFF-8665. This is a 100G Ethernet short-reach optic; it does not carry Fibre Channel, OTN, or SONET traffic.
OPT-0031-xx is F5's optical module designation, where the -xx placeholder covers the orderable hardware variants of this same 100GBASE-SR4 module; F5-UPG-QSFP28-SR4 is the field-upgrade ordering SKU for it. EdgeOptic codes this compatible with F5-recognized EEPROM so the host reads it as a supported transceiver. F5 BIG-IP documentation lists this module on the i15000, r5000, r10000, and r12000-DS series, VIPRION B4400 Series blades, and VELOS BX110 and BX520 blades; verify against F5 platform documentation before deployment. Typical roles include high-throughput application delivery and data center interconnect.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which F5 ordering SKU covers this transceiver, OPT-0031-xx or F5-UPG-QSFP28-SR4?
Both refer to the same 100GBASE-SR4 module. In F5 BIG-IP documentation, OPT-0031-xx is the optical module designation, where the -xx placeholder covers the orderable hardware variants, while F5-UPG-QSFP28-SR4 is the field-upgrade ordering SKU. Engineers see both forms on order sheets and documentation; the EdgeOptic compatible covers this module regardless of which form appears.
