Finisar compatible FTL4C1QM1C Description
EdgeOptic's FTL4C1QM1C compatible is a Finisar (now part of Coherent) coded version of the EdgeOptic 40G-QSFP-10 multi-vendor 40GBASE-LR4 transceiver. The M in QM1C marks it as a multirate part: alongside 40GBASE-LR4 Ethernet it carries OTU3-class OTN transport, which sets it apart from the Ethernet-only QE members of the line. It is the first-generation multirate module in this group.
The optics use four uncooled DFB lasers on CWDM wavelengths of 1271, 1291, 1311 and 1331 nm, multiplexed onto one duplex single-mode pair over an LC/UPC connector for reach up to 10 km. PIN photodiode receivers recover the lanes at −12.6 dBm sensitivity per lane, with overload at +3 dBm. Per-lane launch power runs between −6 and +3 dBm, for an average link budget of 6.6 dB. At 40 Gigabit Ethernet the module signals at 41.25 Gb/s NRZ to IEEE 802.3ba Clause 87 for 40GBASE-LR4.
In OTN deployments the FTL4C1QM1C also supports OTU3 at 43.01 Gb/s, along with the OTU3e1 and OTU3e2 (up to 44.6 Gb/s) overclocked rates and STM-256 / OC-768 at 39.81 Gb/s, per the Finisar product specification. The optical interface is the same 4-lane CWDM assembly for both Ethernet and OTN service; confirm the required line rate and framing against the transport platform's transceiver guide before deployment.
Mechanically and electrically the module follows the QSFP+ MSA, SFF-8436 and INF-8438i, operates across the commercial 0 to 70 °C case temperature range, and reports diagnostics through the standard DOM/DDM I2C memory map.
The module works with equipment that accepts 40GBASE-LR4 or OTU3 QSFP+ interfaces; verify the exact part against the platform's transceiver compatibility table before deployment. Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms, the module ships next business day from EU stock with a lifetime warranty. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the FTL4C1QM1C and FTL4C1QE1C?
The QM1C is a multirate module: it carries 40GBASE-LR4 Ethernet plus OTU3-class OTN transport on a single optical interface. The QE1C is Ethernet-only and carries 40GBASE-LR4 with no OTN capability. Both share the same 10 km CWDM optics over single-mode fiber. Order the QM1C when the link needs OTU3 framing; the QE1C is the correct choice for plain 40 Gigabit Ethernet.
What OTN rates does the FTL4C1QM1C support?
Per the Finisar product specification, the module supports OTU3 at 43.01 Gb/s, the OTU3e1 and OTU3e2 overclocked rates up to roughly 44.6 Gb/s, and STM-256 / OC-768 at 39.81 Gb/s, in addition to 40GBASE-LR4 Ethernet at 41.25 Gb/s. Confirm the exact rate and OTN framing the platform expects against its transceiver guide before deployment.
