Finisar compatible FTL4C1QM2C Description
EdgeOptic's FTL4C1QM2C compatible is a Finisar (now part of Coherent) coded version of the EdgeOptic 40G-QSFP-10 multi-vendor 40GBASE-LR4 transceiver. The QM2C is the second-generation multirate module in this line: it carries 40GBASE-LR4 Ethernet together with OTU3-class OTN transport, unlike the Ethernet-only QE members.
Four uncooled DFB lasers transmit on CWDM wavelengths of 1271, 1291, 1311 and 1331 nm, combined onto a single duplex single-mode pair through an LC/UPC connector for distances up to 10 km. PIN photodiode receivers recover the lanes at −12.6 dBm sensitivity per lane, with overload at +3 dBm. Per-lane launch power runs between −6 and +3 dBm, for an average link budget of 6.6 dB. At 40 Gigabit Ethernet the module signals at 41.25 Gb/s NRZ to IEEE 802.3ba Clause 87 for 40GBASE-LR4.
In OTN deployments the FTL4C1QM2C also supports OTU3 at 43.01 Gb/s, plus the OTU3e1 and OTU3e2 (up to 44.6 Gb/s) overclocked rates, per the Finisar product specification. Both Ethernet and OTN service run over the same 4-lane CWDM optical interface; confirm the required line rate and framing against the transport platform's transceiver guide before deployment.
Gen2 reflects a product revision over the first-generation QM1C; the protocol scope and 10 km reach are unchanged. The module follows the QSFP+ MSA and SFF-8436, operates across the commercial 0 to 70 °C case temperature range, and reports diagnostics through the standard DOM/DDM I2C memory map.
The module works with equipment that accepts 40GBASE-LR4 or OTU3 QSFP+ interfaces; verify the exact part against the platform's transceiver compatibility table before deployment. Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms, the module ships next business day from EU stock with a lifetime warranty. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the FTL4C1QM1C and FTL4C1QM2C?
The QM2C is the second-generation version of the QM1C. Both are multirate modules carrying 40GBASE-LR4 Ethernet plus OTU3-class OTN transport over the same 10 km CWDM optics; Gen2 reflects a product revision rather than a change in protocol scope or reach. The QM1C is now end-of-life, and the EdgeOptic compatible covers both ordering codes. Match each end of the link to the same specification during commissioning.
