Finisar compatible FTLC1154SDPL Description

FTLC1154SDPL is the multirate (S variant) version of Finisar's 100GBASE-LR4 QSFP28 transceiver. Unlike the Ethernet-only FTLC1154RDPL (R variant), this module supports both 100G Ethernet at 103.1 Gbps and OTU4 at 111.81 Gbps. This EDGE compatible module matches the original FTLC1154SDPL specifications and is built to the same MSA standards. It operates over duplex single-mode fiber at four LAN-WDM wavelengths (1295.56, 1300.05, 1304.58, and 1309.14 nm), reaching up to 10 km with a minimum optical link budget of 6.3 dB per IEEE 802.3ba.

The module uses EML transmitters and PIN photodiode receivers. In Ethernet mode, four lanes run at 25.78125 Gbps each for 103.1 Gbps aggregate. In OTU4 mode, lanes run at 27.95 Gbps each for 111.81 Gbps aggregate per ITU-T G.709. DDM/DOM provides real-time readings of TX/RX optical power, laser bias current, temperature, and supply voltage. Maximum power consumption is 3.5 W from a single 3.3 V supply. Operating temperature range is 0 to 70 °C.

As a QSFP28 MSA-compliant module, the FTLC1154SDPL is compatible with platforms that accept third-party optics. For 100G Ethernet, it works in Cisco Nexus and Catalyst, Juniper MX and QFX, Arista 7000 series, and other standard switches. For OTU4, it is used in telecom and service provider platforms including Cisco NCS 1004 and NCS 2000, Juniper PTX routers, and OTN equipment from Ciena, Infinera, and ADVA. The module operates at the rate configured by the host port.

The FTLC1154SDPL and FTLC1154RDPL share the same optical interface: same wavelengths, link budget, reach, power consumption, and form factor. The difference is protocol support. The R variant handles 100G Ethernet only, while the S variant also supports OTU4 for optical transport networks. On a 100GE link, the S variant is fully interoperable with the R variant at the opposite end. For OTU4 links, both ends must use S-variant or OTU4-capable modules.

Our compatible FTLC1154SDPL is CE and RoHS certified, QSFP28 MSA-compliant, and conforms to IEEE 802.3ba and ITU-T G.709. Before delivery, every module undergoes optical parameter measurement, connector cleanliness inspection, and EEPROM data validation testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between FTLC1154SDPL and FTLC1154RDPL?

The FTLC1154SDPL (S variant) is a multirate module supporting both 100G Ethernet at 103.1 Gbps and OTU4 at 111.81 Gbps. The FTLC1154RDPL (R variant) supports 100G Ethernet only. The optical specifications are identical between the two: same wavelengths, same 10 km reach, all within the same 3.5 W power envelope. On a 100GE link, either module works and they are interoperable with each other. For OTU4 links, both ends must be S-variant modules.

Which platforms require OTU4 and the FTLC1154SDPL?

OTU4 is used on telecom and service provider platforms running Optical Transport Networks (OTN). Common examples include Cisco NCS 1004 and NCS 2000, Juniper PTX and MX routers with OTN line cards, and OTN platforms from Ciena, Infinera, and ADVA. Standard data center switches running Ethernet only (Cisco Nexus, Arista, Juniper QFX) do not need OTU4 and can use either the S or R variant.

Can I use the FTLC1154SDPL for Ethernet-only deployments?

Yes. The FTLC1154SDPL operates at the rate the host port is configured for. On an Ethernet port, it runs 100GBASE-LR4 at 103.1 Gbps. On an OTU4 port, it runs at 111.81 Gbps. It is fully interoperable with the Ethernet-only FTLC1154RDPL on the opposite end of a 100GE link.

Is there a newer version of the FTLC1154SDPL?

Coherent (formerly II-VI/Finisar) lists the FTLC1156SDPL as the current-production multirate QSFP28. The optical specifications and OTU4 support carry over. Both modules are interoperable on the same fiber link and can be mixed on opposite ends without reconfiguration.
