Finisar compatible FTLF1428P2BNV Description

The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the Finisar FTLF1428P2BNV 8Gb Fibre Channel Long-Wavelength SFP+. It provides Fibre Channel connectivity over single-mode fiber at 1310nm, reaching up to 10km with a duplex LC connector. This is an 8GFC module for SAN switches, not a 10GbE Ethernet transceiver.

The transceiver is a dual-rate FC module supporting 4.25 Gbps (4GFC) and 8.5 Gbps (8GFC). It uses a 1310nm DFB laser transmitter paired with an APD (avalanche photodiode) receiver over standard G.652 single-mode fiber. FC-PI-4 compliant.

The original Finisar FTLF1428P2BNV does not include DDM diagnostics. The EdgeOptic compatible version includes DDM register support per SFF-8472, providing TX/RX power, temperature, and bias current data. DDM visibility depends on whether your SAN switch firmware polls DDM registers for modules coded as FTLF1428P2BNV.

The FTLF1428P3BNV is the newer Finisar version with DDM included from the factory. Both share the same optical specs and dual-rate 4G/8G FC support. The P3 designation indicates DDM capability in Finisar's part numbering.

Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) is supported per SFF-8472. The module reports TX/RX optical power, temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage in real time. It is MSA-compliant per SFF-8431 and SFF-8432, CE/RoHS certified, and operates in commercial temperature range (0 to 70C).
