FTLF1428P3BNV Finisar compatible 8 Gigabit Long-Wavelength SFP+ Transceiver

FTLF1428P3BNV is Finisar's part number for an 8G Fibre Channel long-wavelength SFP+ transceiver. EdgeOptic's compatible replacement is built on our 10G-SFP-10 platform, matching the original optical and electrical specifications. The FTLF1428P series is Finisar's standard 8GFC LW module line, deployed across FC SAN environments from enterprise data centers to managed hosting facilities.

The P3BNV is the current-revision 8GFC LW module in Finisar's lineup, replacing the earlier P2BNV. Both share the same optical parameters, but the P3 revision reflects updated firmware and EEPROM formatting introduced during later production runs. Finisar was acquired by II-VI (now Coherent) in 2019, and P3-series modules may carry either Finisar or Coherent branding depending on manufacture date. The P3 revision also introduced minor improvements to the DDM calibration accuracy, though the optical link budget and power specifications remain unchanged from the P2 generation.

Optical output uses a 1310 nm DFB laser transmitter paired with a PIN photodiode receiver. Launch power ranges from -9.5 dBm to -0.5 dBm, with receive sensitivity at -17 dBm or better. These parameters establish a link budget that supports 10 km reaches over standard G.652 single-mode fiber with duplex LC/UPC connectors. Digital Diagnostic Monitoring per SFF-8472 provides real-time readout of optical power levels (both Tx and Rx), module temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage, all accessible through the host HBA or switch management interface.

FTLF1428P3BNV supports dual-rate operation at 4.25 Gbps (4GFC) and 8.5 Gbps (8GFC), with automatic rate negotiation handled by the host HBA or switch port. FC SAN deployments commonly use this module in Brocade G620, Cisco MDS 9148S, QLogic 2692 HBAs, and Emulex LPe16002 adapters. The transceiver conforms to FC-PI-4 for physical interface requirements and SFF-8431/8432 for the SFP+ mechanical and electrical specification. In mixed-speed SAN fabrics running both 4GFC and 8GFC ports, the P3BNV negotiates the correct line rate per port automatically.

EdgeOptic's compatible is programmed with standard FC OUI identifiers and passes FLOGI authentication on all major FC fabrics without additional switch configuration. The module ships with the same temperature, power, and bias current alarm thresholds as the original Finisar specification.
