Finisar compatible FTLX1475D3BCL Description

The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the Finisar FTLX1475D3BCL 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver. It provides 10 Gigabit Ethernet over single-mode fiber at 1310nm, reaching up to 10km with a duplex LC connector. This is the pull-tab variant of the FTLX1471D3BCL family, used in high-density chassis where standard bail latches are difficult to reach between adjacent ports.

The transmitter uses a 1310nm DFB (Distributed Feedback) laser with output power in the −8.2 to +0.5 dBm range. The receiver uses a PIN photodiode with a minimum sensitivity threshold of −14.4 dBm at BER 1E-12, yielding a channel insertion loss budget of 6.2 dB per IEEE 802.3ae Table 52-14. The operating wavelength range is 1260 to 1355 nm. Over OS2 single-mode fiber (0.4 dB/km maximum at 1310nm), the 6.2 dB budget supports 10 km reach with headroom for typical connector and splice losses of 1 to 1.5 dB.

The module supports data rates from 1.25 to 10.3125 Gbps. Listed applications include 10GBASE-LR (10.3125 Gbps), 10GBASE-LW WAN PHY (9.95328 Gbps), 1000BASE-LX Gigabit Ethernet (1.25 Gbps), and OC-192/STM-64 SONET/SDH (9.95328 Gbps). The module's CDR supports these application rates; the host platform selects the operating rate within that range. The same part number drops into Ethernet switching, WAN handoff, and legacy SONET transport equipment without a separate SKU per application.

The FTLX1475D3BCL uses a pull-tab release mechanism instead of the standard wire bail latch found on the FTLX1471D3BCL. In high-density SFP+ cages where port pitch is tight, the pull-tab design lets a technician remove a module by pulling a fabric or plastic tab straight back, rather than reaching under the module to release a bail. Pull-tab modules are preferred in 1U switches with 48+ SFP+ ports and in linecards with double-row cage configurations where bail-latch access is obstructed.

Finisar (now part of Coherent Corp after the II-VI acquisition in 2019 and rebrand in 2022) manufactures the FTLX1475D3BCL and its industrial-temperature sibling FTLX1475D3BTL. The D3BCL variant operates from 0 to 70°C commercial; the D3BTL variant is rated −40 to 85°C for outdoor cabinets, industrial switches, and unheated cell sites. Optical performance is identical between the two.

Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) is supported per SFF-8472. The module reports transmit and receive optical power, laser bias current, temperature, and supply voltage via the host management interface. The transceiver is MSA compliant per SFF-8431 and SFF-8432 (SFP+ MSA), Class 1 laser safe per IEC 60825-1, and carries CE and RoHS certification. Power consumption is under 1 W.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I choose the FTLX1475D3BCL pull-tab version instead of the FTLX1471D3BCL?

Use the FTLX1475D3BCL (pull-tab) when the module installs into a high-density SFP+ cage, a 1U switch with 48 or more SFP+ ports, or a linecard with double-row cages, where reaching a bail latch between adjacent modules is impractical. Choose the FTLX1471D3BCL (bail latch) when density is not a concern and operators prefer the traditional mechanical release. Optical performance is identical.

What is the minimum link distance for the FTLX1475D3BCL?

The minimum recommended link length is about 2 meters. On very short patch cables the receiver can approach its maximum input power limit (+0.5 dBm per IEEE 802.3ae, the same as the transmitter maximum), which leaves zero margin for optical power variation. For sub-2m connections, insert a 5 to 10 dB inline optical attenuator to bring received power into the operating range. Check the module's DDM Rx power reading after installation to confirm.

Will the FTLX1475D3BCL work in a Cisco or Juniper switch without vendor coding?

EdgeOptic supplies vendor-coded variants of this module for platforms that enforce transceiver locking, including Cisco and Juniper. The Cisco-coded version is accepted by NX-OS and IOS-XE without CLI overrides, and the Juniper-coded version is accepted by Junos without configuration. The base FTLX1475D3BCL without a suffix is MSA-standard and works in platforms that accept generic SFP+ optics. Contact us for the correct coded version for your platform.

Is there an industrial-temperature version of the FTLX1475D3BCL?

Yes. The FTLX1475D3BTL is the industrial-temperature variant, rated from −40°C to 85°C. The standard FTLX1475D3BCL operates from 0°C to 70°C (commercial). Use the industrial variant for outdoor cabinets, unheated cell sites, and industrial switches in extended-temperature environments. Optical performance is identical.
