Finisar compatible FTLX6871MCC Description
The EdgeOptic FTLX6871MCC is a Finisar-compatible (now Coherent) tunable 10G DWDM SFP+ transceiver based on the DWDM-10G-SFP-80-TUN platform, manufactured to SFP+ MSA (SFF-8431) specifications. The FTLX6871MCC is the linear receiver variant at commercial temperature (0 to 70°C), used in OTN transport and transponder-based DWDM platforms where the host system performs its own clock and data recovery. The module operates over duplex single-mode fiber with a rated 23 dB optical link budget, reaching up to 80 km. The 80 km distance assumes minimum optical budget and average fiber attenuation; actual reach depends on installed plant loss, connectors, and splices. The FTLX6871MCC uses a tunable laser transmitter operating across ITU C-Band channels on the 50 GHz DWDM grid and a linear APD receiver that outputs the full analog signal to the host. A single tunable SKU replaces any of the fixed-wavelength DWDM channel variants. This reduces spare inventory to one part number. DDM/DOM optical diagnostics report transmit power, receive power, temperature, bias current, and supply voltage via the MSA-compatible EEPROM interface.
The module has a duplex LC/UPC connector. The chipset supports data rates from 8.5 to 11.32 Gbps, including 10G Ethernet (10.31 Gbps), STM-64/OC-192 (9.95 Gbps), 10G Fibre Channel (10.52 Gbps), 8G Fibre Channel (8.5 Gbps), OTU2 (10.71 Gbps), and OTU2e (11.09 Gbps). Supported applications depend on the host port capabilities and are confirmed during the ordering process. The linear receiver variant is specified by OTN transport platforms such as ADVA FSP 3000, Ciena 6500, legacy Transmode systems, and Nokia 1830 PSS, where the host line card performs its own clock and data recovery. Standard Ethernet switches and routers typically use the limiting FTLX6872 variant instead.
The EdgeOptic FTLX6871MCC is CE/RoHS certified and compliant with Class 1 laser safety standards (IEC 60825-1). The module EEPROM is programmed with Finisar-compatible vendor coding following the original Finisar specification for cross-platform OEM compatibility. Finisar was acquired by II-VI in 2019. II-VI subsequently acquired Coherent Corp. and rebranded the combined company as Coherent Corp. in 2022.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between FTLX6871MCC and FTLX6871MNC?
Both are Finisar linear APD tunable DWDM SFP+ modules with identical optical and electrical specifications. The difference is operating temperature range: MCC is commercial grade (0 to 70°C) for standard indoor rack environments, while the Finisar original MNC is extended temperature (-40 to 85°C). EdgeOptic compatible modules for both variants operate at 0 to 70°C commercial range.
Which platforms use the linear FTLX6871 instead of the limiting FTLX6872?
The linear FTLX6871 is used in OTN transport equipment and transponder-based DWDM systems where the host line card performs its own clock and data recovery and expects a linear (analog) signal from the SFP+ module. ADVA FSP 3000, Ciena 6500, legacy Transmode platforms, and Nokia 1830 PSS are examples of platforms that may specify the linear variant. Standard Ethernet switches and routers (Cisco, Juniper, Arista) use the limiting FTLX6872 variant.
