Fortinet compatible FG-TRAN-QSFP28-LR4 Description

FG-TRAN-QSFP28-LR4 is a Fortinet part number for a 100GBASE-LR4 QSFP28 transceiver. This EDGE compatible module matches the original specifications and is built to the same MSA standards, with EEPROM coded for Fortinet platform recognition. It operates over duplex single-mode fiber at four LAN-WDM wavelengths (1295.56, 1300.05, 1304.58, and 1309.14 nm), reaching up to 10 km with a minimum optical link budget of 6.3 dB per IEEE 802.3ba.

The module uses EML transmitters and PIN photodiode receivers, carrying four lanes at 25.78125 Gbps each for an aggregate 103.125 Gbps line rate. DDM/DOM provides real-time readings of TX/RX optical power, laser bias current, temperature, and supply voltage. Maximum power consumption is 3.5 W from a single 3.3 V supply. Operating temperature range is 0 to 70 °C. The duplex LC connector works with standard OS2 single-mode patch cords.

Fortinet does not block third-party transceivers in current FortiOS versions. A "not certified by Fortinet" informational message may appear in logs, but the link comes up and operates normally. The FG-TRAN-QSFP28-LR4 works in FortiGate firewalls with QSFP28 ports (3500F, 4200F, 4400F, and others) and FortiSwitch models with 100G uplinks (FS-1024E, FS-1048E, FS-3032E).

FG-TRAN-QSFP28-LR4 is the legacy Fortinet part number originally designated for FortiGate firewalls. Fortinet has since consolidated to the FN-TRAN prefix for all platforms, but both part numbers refer to the same 100GBASE-LR4 QSFP28 module with identical specifications. Our compatible module works with either part number.

Our compatible FG-TRAN-QSFP28-LR4 is CE and RoHS certified, QSFP28 MSA-compliant, and conforms to IEEE 802.3ba. Before delivery, every module undergoes optical parameter measurement, connector cleanliness inspection, and EEPROM data validation testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I get a "not certified by Fortinet" error with a compatible transceiver?

A "This transceiver is not certified by Fortinet" informational message may appear in logs or the GUI. This is a disclaimer, not a block. The link establishes normally and the module operates at full specifications. Properly coded compatible transceivers with correct Fortinet EEPROM values function identically to OEM modules.

What is the difference between FG-TRAN-QSFP28-LR4 and FN-TRAN-QSFP28-LR4?

FG-TRAN is the legacy Fortinet part number prefix originally used for FortiGate products. FN-TRAN is the current unified prefix covering all Fortinet platforms (FortiGate, FortiSwitch, FortiDDoS). The optical specifications are identical. If your bill of materials lists either part number, this module is the correct replacement.

Which FortiGate and FortiSwitch models support the FG-TRAN-QSFP28-LR4?

FortiGate models with QSFP28 ports include the 3500F, 4200F, and 4400F. FortiSwitch models with QSFP28 uplinks include the FS-1024E, FS-1048E, and FS-3032E. Check your specific model's datasheet to confirm QSFP28 port availability and supported speeds, as configurations vary across the Fortinet product line.

Does using a compatible transceiver void my Fortinet warranty?

No. Using a third-party transceiver does not void the Fortinet hardware warranty. However, if you open a TAC case for a link issue, Fortinet support may ask you to test with a certified Fortinet optic before proceeding with troubleshooting.
