HP compatible 455888-001 Description

The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver coded for HPE 455888-001 BladeSystem c-Class compatibility. 1310nm wavelength, single-mode fiber, 10km reach, duplex LC/UPC connector. The module is HPE EEPROM coded for BladeSystem and ProLiant platforms.

1310nm DFB laser transmitter, PIN photodiode receiver. Link budget is 6dB over G.652 single-mode fiber. Line rate is 10.3125 Gbps with 64B/66B encoding per IEEE 802.3ae.

Compatible with HPE BladeSystem c7000 and c3000 enclosures with Virtual Connect Flex-10, Flex-10/10D, and FlexFabric interconnect modules. Also works in ProLiant servers equipped with 530SFP+, 560SFP+, or 562SFP+ network adapters and their FLR variants.

455888-001 is the HPE assembly part number printed on the physical module label. The same transceiver is ordered as 455886-B21 (option part number) and replaced under warranty as 456097-001 (spare part number). All three refer to the same 10GBASE-LR SFP+ specification.

G.652 single-mode fiber has an attenuation of approximately 0.35 dB/km at 1310nm. Over a 10km span, fiber loss consumes about 3.5 dB of the optical power budget. Connector insertion loss runs 0.5 dB per mated UPC pair; fusion splices add 0.1 dB each. A 10km link with two connector pairs and a few splices consumes roughly 4.5–5 dB, leaving 1–1.5 dB of margin against the 6 dB budget.

10GBASE-LR covers enterprise and campus backbones, inter-building links, metro access and aggregation rings, carrier backhaul, and dark-fiber DCI. The 10km reach is sufficient for most metro and enterprise applications without moving to longer-reach ER or ZR optics. For spans near the 10km limit, measure installed attenuation with an OTDR or optical loss meter before commissioning.

LC connector endfaces should be inspected and cleaned before every mate. Contaminated or scratched connectors are a common cause of link degradation at 10G rates: a single particle larger than the mode field diameter can add several dB of loss. Use IEC 61300-3-35 visual inspection grading and dry or wet cleaning methods before installation.
