HP compatible AW538A Description
The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-20 is a compatible replacement for the HPE AW538A (B-series 8GFC Extended Long Wave 25km Fibre Channel SFP). It provides FC connectivity over single-mode fiber at 1310nm with a duplex LC connector. This is an 8GFC module for HPE B-series (Brocade) SAN switches. The EdgeOptic module is SFP+ form factor, which is backward-compatible with SFP cages on B-series platforms.
The transceiver is a dual-rate FC module supporting 4.25 Gbps (4GFC) and 8.5 Gbps (8GFC). It uses a 1310nm DFB laser transmitter over standard G.652 single-mode fiber. The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-20 supports links up to 20km. If your installed fiber run is under 20km, this module is a drop-in replacement for the AW538A. For runs between 20 and 25km, contact our sales team.
This module is compatible with HPE B-series SAN switches including the SN2600B, SN2700C, SN3600B, SN6500, SN8600B, and other HPE SAN Switch models with FC SFP/SFP+ ports.
The AW538A is the 8GFC Extended Long Wave (ELW) variant with higher Tx power and an APD receiver for 25km reach. The AJ717A is the standard 8GFC Long Wave (LW) variant with a PIN receiver for 10km. Both are HPE B-series FC modules at 1310nm on single-mode fiber, but the optical class and receiver technology differ.
Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) is supported per SFF-8472. The module reports TX/RX optical power, temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage in real time. CE/RoHS certified, commercial temperature range (0 to 70C).
