HP compatible JD094B Description

The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the HP JD094B (X130 10G SFP+ LC LR) 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver. It operates at 1310nm over single-mode fiber with a 10km reach. Interface is duplex LC/UPC. The module is EEPROM coded for HP H3C/Comware platforms.

Transmitter uses a 1310nm DFB laser; receiver is a PIN photodiode. Link budget is 6dB over G.652 single-mode fiber. Line rate is 10.3125 Gbps with 64B/66B encoding per IEEE 802.3ae.

Tested on HP H3C/Comware platforms including the A5500, A5800, A5820, 5900, 5120, and 12500 series switches. The EEPROM is programmed with HP-compatible vendor data for recognition on these platforms. The tested Comware platforms do not hard-block MSA-compliant optics; a syslog warning may appear but does not affect operation.

The JD094B is from HP’s H3C/Comware product line, not the ProCurve/Aruba line. For HP ProCurve switches use J9151A, for Aruba ArubaOS-Switch use J9151E, for Aruba CX use J9151D. The JD094A is an older revision with the same optical specs — both are interchangeable on H3C platforms. The H3C equivalent part number is SFP-XG-LR-SM1310.

DDM (SFF-8472) supported for real-time optical and electrical monitoring. MSA compliant per SFF-8431 (electrical) and IEEE 802.3ae (optical), with Class 1 laser safety per IEC 60825-1. CE and RoHS certified for commercial temperature range 0°C to 70°C.

Operates over G.652 single-mode fiber (OS1/OS2 compliant). For very short patch connections, verify received power does not exceed receiver maximum.

G.652 single-mode fiber has an attenuation of approximately 0.35 dB/km at 1310nm. Over a 10km span, fiber loss consumes about 3.5 dB of the optical power budget. Connector insertion loss runs 0.5 dB per mated UPC pair; fusion splices add 0.1 dB each. A 10km link with two connector pairs and a few splices consumes roughly 4.5–5 dB, leaving 1–1.5 dB of margin against the 6 dB budget.

10GBASE-LR covers enterprise and campus backbones, inter-building links, metro access and aggregation rings, carrier backhaul, and dark-fiber DCI. The 10km reach is sufficient for most metro and enterprise applications without moving to longer-reach ER or ZR optics. For spans near the 10km limit, measure installed attenuation with an OTDR or optical loss meter before commissioning.

LC connector endfaces should be inspected and cleaned before every mate. Contaminated or scratched connectors are a common cause of link degradation at 10G rates: a single particle larger than the mode field diameter can add several dB of loss. Use IEC 61300-3-35 visual inspection grading and dry or wet cleaning methods before installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between JD094A and JD094B?

Both are HP H3C 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceivers with the same optical specs (1310nm, 10km, single-mode). The JD094B is the current revision. They are interchangeable on HP H3C/Comware platforms.

Is the JD094B the same as the HP X130 10G SFP+ LC LR?

Yes. “X130 10G SFP+ LC LR” is HP’s product description for the JD094B. JD094B is the ordering part number, X130 is the product series name.

What HP switches support the JD094B?

The JD094B is supported on HP H3C/Comware platforms including the A5500, A5800, A5820, 5900, 5120, and 12500 series. It is not for HP ProCurve or Aruba switches — those use J9151A, J9151E, or J9151D.

What is the H3C part number for the JD094B?

The H3C equivalent is SFP-XG-LR-SM1310. HP used JD094B as the ordering SKU while H3C used the SFP-XG-LR-SM1310 designation.
