HP compatible Q2S22A Description

EdgeOptic's Q2S22A compatible is an HPE-coded version of the EdgeOptic 100G-QSFP28-100 multi-vendor 100GBASE-SR4 transceiver, one universal short-reach QSFP28 module coded for multiple vendor codes. HPE lists the Q2S22A as the B-Series 100GbE QSFP28 SR4 Transceiver under its storage QSFP28 transceiver line; this is a 100G Ethernet optic, not a Fibre Channel module. It runs 100G Ethernet over four parallel 850 nm VCSEL lanes at 25G each across multimode fiber, terminated on an MTP/MPO-12 (UPC) connector using 8 active fibers, 4 transmit and 4 receive. The transceiver port is female (unpinned); the patch cable is the pinned male side, so a transceiver-to-transceiver link uses a male-to-male Type B cable. Reach is 70 m over OM3 and 100 m over OM4, per IEEE 802.3bm Clause 95.

Optical specifications include a 1.9 dB average link budget, receiver sensitivity of −10.3 dBm per lane, NRZ modulation, and no FEC at the optical PMD level. The transmitter uses 850 nm VCSEL lasers; the receiver is a PIN photodiode. OM4 supports the full 100 m while OM3 is rated to 70 m, with achievable distance depending on patch panels, splices, and connector cleanliness in the installed link. DDM/DOM is supported, so the host can read live per-lane optical power and bias along with module temperature and voltage. The module operates across the 0°C to 70°C commercial temperature range at 3.5 W and complies with the QSFP28 MSA, SFF-8636, and SFF-8665. This is a 100G Ethernet short-reach optic; it does not carry Fibre Channel, OTN, or SONET traffic.
