HP compatible R0R41A Description
EdgeOptic's HPE R0R41A compatible is an HPE-coded 10GBASE-T copper SFP+ transceiver for ProLiant Gen9 and Gen10 rack servers with SFP+ network adapters. EdgeOptic programs the module EEPROM to match the HPE R0R41A vendor profile, so the transceiver is presented as an HPE-branded module to the host during inventory readback. The part ships with the same 30 m reach and 10GBASE-T electrical specification as the OEM R0R41A.
R0R41A is the predecessor EEPROM revision of HPE's 30 m 10GBASE-T SFP+, carrying the HPE spare/assembly number P15891-001. HPE later released R0R41B (P15891-002), the current revision. The two are the same physical hardware; the difference is EEPROM programming, not optics. R0R41A remains a valid procurement choice for ProLiant environments that are not running Nvidia ConnectX-6 SmartNIC or DPU adapters. For new deployments on ConnectX-6-based hosts, the R0R41B revision is the HPE-recommended SKU and is stocked separately.
The transceiver operates per IEEE 802.3an for 10GBASE-T with multi-rate fallback to 2.5GBASE-T, 5GBASE-T and 1000BASE-T on platforms that negotiate lower rates. Reach is up to 30 m on Cat6a or Cat7 unshielded twisted-pair. The electrical and management interfaces follow SFF-8431 and SFF-8432, the governing MSAs for SFP+ class copper modules. Operating temperature covers 0 to 65 °C commercial grade with CE and RoHS certification. Copper 10GBASE-T modules draw more power than a fibre SFP+ and require a high-power SFP+ cage, which HPE ProLiant SFP+ network adapters provide on their SFP+ slots.
Because this is a copper module, DOM telemetry is scoped to the fields that apply to a non-optical SFP+: case temperature, supply voltage, and link status. Transmit optical power, receive optical power, and laser bias current do not exist on this part and are not reported. Management tooling that expects optical DDM values should treat this module as a copper transceiver. Target deployment is HPE ProLiant Gen9 and Gen10 SFP+ NIC slots, HPE Synergy compute modules with SFP+ ports, and HPE MSA storage SFP+ management ports on platforms that reference the R0R41A SKU. Verify compatibility against the HPE Compute Transceiver and Cable Hardware Matrix for the target adapter before deployment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between HPE R0R41A and R0R41B?
R0R41A and R0R41B are the same physical 10GBASE-T SFP+ hardware with different EEPROM programming. R0R41A carries HPE spare number P15891-001 and is the predecessor revision. R0R41B carries P15891-002 and is the current HPE revision, with updated EEPROM that addresses a compatibility issue observed with Nvidia ConnectX-6 (CX6) SmartNIC and DPU adapters. On standard ProLiant SFP+ NIC deployments without ConnectX-6 hardware, both revisions behave identically. For new procurement on ConnectX-6 platforms, use R0R41B.
Is the R0R41A compatible with HPE ProLiant Gen10 Plus servers?
R0R41A is not generation-locked. It functions on ProLiant Gen9, Gen10, and Gen10 Plus platforms in the same HPE SFP+ NIC ecosystem that R0R41B supports. The distinction between the two revisions is EEPROM programming (CX6 adapter support on R0R41B), not server generation. Verify the specific adapter model in the target ProLiant against the HPE Compute Transceiver and Cable Hardware Matrix before deployment.
Can R0R41A be used with Nvidia ConnectX-6 adapters?
R0R41B (P15891-002) is the HPE revision qualified by Nvidia for ConnectX-6 adapters. R0R41A (P15891-001) predates the EEPROM update that resolved the CX6 compatibility issue and may not initialise correctly on ConnectX-6-based SmartNIC or DPU deployments. Procurement for ConnectX-6 hosts should use the R0R41B compatible instead.
