HP compatible R8M61A Description

EdgeOptic's R8M61A compatible is an HPE-coded version of the EdgeOptic 100G-QSFP28-SL500 multi-vendor 100GBASE-DR transceiver. It matches the HPE 100GbE QSFP28 LC DR1 500m module, a single-lambda QSFP28 carrying 100G Ethernet over duplex single-mode fiber to 500m. Operation follows IEEE 802.3cd 100GBASE-DR and the 100G Lambda MSA, and the module is coded with HPE-recognized EEPROM so it is read as a known optic during commissioning.

The module uses a single 1310nm PAM4 lane in the 1304.5 to 1317.5nm band, with an EML laser transmitter and a PIN photodiode receiver. Signaling runs at 106.25 Gbps with a 3 dB minimum optical budget, the figure used to derive the 500m reach over standard single-mode cabling. DOM is supported for live monitoring of optical power, temperature, bias, and voltage. The connector is duplex LC and the module operates across the commercial 0 to 70C range.

100GBASE-DR carries RS(544,514) KP4 forward error correction inside the module DSP, so host-side FEC stays disabled to avoid double-FEC on the link. Both ends of the span must run the same single-lambda 100GBASE-DR optic at 500m. Don't pair it with a four-lane SR4, CWDM4, or PSM4 module, which use a different lane plan and won't interoperate. Confirm the port speed and FEC settings during commissioning.

The module is built to the QSFP28 MSA and SFF-8665, and carries CE and RoHS marking. Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms, it ships with HPE-recognized coding for clean recognition on HPE networking equipment. Made to order, 2-week lead time, lifetime warranty included. For platform confirmation or bulk pricing, contact our sales team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do HPE Aruba AOS-CX switches need the allow-unsupported-transceiver command for the R8M61A compatible?

On HPE Aruba AOS-CX, allow-unsupported-transceiver is enabled by default per HPE documentation, so third-party optics are accepted without adding the command. Behavior can differ on older ArubaOS-Switch and ProCurve platforms, so verify against your switch OS version and contact our sales team to confirm for your specific platform.
