IBM compatible 23R1703 Description
The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the IBM 23R1703 4Gb Fibre Channel Long-Wavelength SFP. It provides FC connectivity over single-mode fiber at 1310nm. The original 23R1703 is rated for 4km; the EdgeOptic replacement provides 10km reach.
The original IBM 23R1703 supports 4.25 Gbps (4GFC). The EdgeOptic replacement also supports 8.5 Gbps (8GFC). It uses a 1310nm DFB laser transmitter paired with an APD receiver over standard G.652 single-mode fiber.
The original 23R1703 is SFP form factor. The EdgeOptic replacement is SFP+ form factor, so the host switch must have SFP+ ports (not SFP-only). Most IBM Brocade-based SAN switches from the 8Gb generation onward use SFP+ cages that accept both SFP and SFP+ modules.
Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) is supported per SFF-8472. The module reports TX/RX optical power, temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage in real time. It is MSA-compliant per SFF-8431 and SFF-8432, CE/RoHS certified, and operates in commercial temperature range (0 to 70C).
