EX-SFP-10GE-LR Juniper Compatible 10GBASE-LR SFP+ Transceiver

The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the Juniper EX-SFP-10GE-LR (740-021309) 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver. It supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet over single-mode fiber at 1310nm with a maximum reach of 10km, using a duplex LC/UPC connector. The module is EEPROM coded for Juniper platforms and recognized by Junos on EX and QFX series switches.

The transmitter uses a 1310nm DFB laser and the receiver uses a PIN photodiode. The module has a 6dB guaranteed optical link budget over standard G.652 single-mode fiber, supporting links up to 10km. The operating wavelength is 1310nm. Line rate is 10.3125 Gbps with 64B/66B encoding per IEEE 802.3ae.

This module is compatible with Juniper EX2300, EX3400, EX4300, EX4400, QFX5100 (48S/96S variants), QFX5110, QFX5120, and QFX5200 series switches with SFP+ uplink ports. Any Juniper EX or QFX switch with SFP+ interfaces that lists EX-SFP-10GE-LR in its qualified optics table can use this module.

Juniper uses separate part numbers for switching and routing platforms. EX-SFP-10GE-LR is the 10GBASE-LR module for EX and QFX switching platforms. SFPP-10G-LR covers MX and SRX routing platforms. The optical parameters are identical, but each carries platform-specific EEPROM coding. Use EX-SFP-10GE-LR-coded modules on EX/QFX and SFPP-10G-LR-coded modules on MX/SRX. The Juniper hardware part number 740-021309 also references this transceiver in procurement and inventory systems.

Junos on EX and QFX switches does not block traffic from third-party optics. An “unsupported optic” log message may appear for modules with unrecognized EEPROM vendor codes, but the interface operates normally. Compatible modules with Juniper EEPROM coding are accepted without warnings. Run “show interfaces diagnostics optics [interface]” to view DDM readings including TX/RX power, laser bias, and temperature. Use “show chassis hardware” to verify the transceiver model and serial number.

Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) is supported per SFF-8472. Monitored parameters include TX/RX optical power, laser bias current, temperature, and supply voltage. The module is MSA compliant per SFF-8431 (electrical interface) and IEEE 802.3ae (optical performance), classified as Class 1 laser safe per IEC 60825-1. It carries CE and RoHS certification with a commercial operating temperature range of 0°C to 70°C.

The EX-SFP-10GE-LR operates over standard OS2 single-mode fiber. The minimum recommended link length is 2 meters to avoid receiver saturation; for shorter patch cables, an inline optical attenuator is recommended. The module supports hot-swappable insertion in SFP+ cage types.
