Juniper compatible QFX-SFP-10GE-LR Description
QFX-SFP-10GE-LR is Juniper’s part number for a 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver qualified for the QFX switching platform family. EdgeOptic’s compatible replacement is built on our 10G-SFP-10 platform with Juniper-recognized EEPROM coding, so Junos accepts the module and populates the chassis inventory without unsupported-optic warnings. The compatible functions identically to the original Juniper module across all QFX platforms that accept SFP+ transceivers.
The module uses a 1310 nm DFB laser and PIN photodiode receiver to deliver 10 Gbps over distances up to 10 km on G.652 single-mode fiber through duplex LC/UPC connectors. It conforms to IEEE 802.3ae, SFF-8431, SFF-8432, and SFF-8472 (DDM). The link budget supports the standard maximum channel insertion loss of approximately 6.3 dB. Commercial operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C, and power consumption stays within the SFP+ MSA specification at under 1 W.
Juniper maintains separate part numbers for the same 10GBASE-LR optic across platform families. QFX-SFP-10GE-LR is the QFX-series designation, while EX-SFP-10GE-LR covers the EX switching line. Both modules have identical optical parameters, but their EEPROM vendor data fields differ. EdgeOptic produces each as a separate compatible SKU. Don’t substitute one for the other — installing a QFX-coded module in an EX4300 or EX4600, for example, may result in Junos flagging it as unsupported in the “show chassis hardware” output and potentially disabling the port depending on the Junos release.
Target platforms for the QFX-SFP-10GE-LR include the QFX5100, QFX5110, QFX5200, QFX5210, and QFX10000 series. These switches serve data center leaf/spine, campus aggregation, and WAN edge roles where 10G LR links connect to equipment beyond the 300 m reach of short-range multimode optics. The QFX5100-48T with its SFP+ uplink ports is a common deployment target, as is the QFX5110-48S in all-SFP+ leaf configurations. In Juniper EVPN-VXLAN fabrics, the QFX-SFP-10GE-LR provides underlay connectivity between leaf and spine tiers when single-mode fiber is the available medium.
EdgeOptic provides full DDM reporting and a lifetime warranty on all Juniper-compatible modules. DDM values (Tx/Rx power, temperature, voltage, bias current) are accessible via “show interfaces diagnostics optics” in Junos and through SNMP polling. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use QFX-SFP-10GE-LR in an EX series switch?
Juniper codes QFX-SFP-10GE-LR and EX-SFP-10GE-LR with different vendor data in the EEPROM. Installing a QFX-coded module in an EX switch may cause Junos to report it as unsupported. EdgeOptic sells each variant separately — order the EX-SFP-10GE-LR compatible for EX series platforms.
Does Junos require a CLI command to enable third-party optics in QFX switches?
EdgeOptic’s QFX-SFP-10GE-LR compatible is coded with Juniper-recognized vendor data, so Junos accepts it as a supported module. No “set chassis pic-mode” or other CLI override is needed. The transceiver appears normally in “show chassis hardware” and DDM values are readable via “show interfaces diagnostics optics.”
