Mellanox compatible MMS1V90-WR Description

EdgeOptic's MMS1V90-WR compatible is a Mellanox-coded version of the EdgeOptic 400G-QSFP-DD-11 multi-vendor 400GBASE-LR4 QSFP-DD transceiver. It carries the EEPROM identification a Mellanox-lineage switch expects for the MMS1V90-WR optic, so the host reads it as the genuine part for 400GbE LR4 over single-mode fiber. The module reaches 10 km on duplex single-mode fiber and replaces the original part one-for-one.

MMS1V90-WR carries 400 Gigabit Ethernet as four 100G PAM4 optical lanes on the CWDM4 grid at 1271, 1291, 1311 and 1331 nm per ITU-T G.694.2. The eight 50G PAM4 electrical channels on the host side are multiplexed to the four optical lanes inside the module. A duplex LC/UPC connector pair carries all four wavelengths over one G.652 single-mode fiber in each direction. The line rate is 425 Gbps, which carries the 400GbE payload together with the RS(544,514) KP4 forward error correction overhead. This module is 400GbE only; it does not support Fibre Channel, OTN or SONET framing.

IEEE 802.3bs defines the 400GbE electrical and rate envelope; the LR4 optical PMD follows the 100G Lambda MSA 400G-LR4-10 specification. RS(544,514) KP4 forward error correction runs on the host ASIC, and both ends of the link must run the same FEC mode. The transmitter uses EML lasers and the receiver uses PIN photodiodes. Average launch power per lane runs from −2.8 dBm to +4 dBm, and average receiver sensitivity per lane is −9.1 dBm, giving a 7.1 dB average link budget for the 10 km span. The receiver overload point is +4.5 dBm and the minimum transmitter extinction ratio is 3.5 dB. Clock and data recovery is integrated, and the module reports temperature, supply voltage, laser bias, optical transmit power and optical receive power through DOM/DDM.

The module operates across the 0 to 70 °C commercial temperature range and draws up to 9 W. It works on NVIDIA Networking switches and other platforms with QSFP-DD ports running 400GbE LR4; the MMS1V90-WR began as a Mellanox part and remains in service across NVIDIA Networking hardware after the brand transition. For 400GbE links over distances inside 2 km, a DR4 or FR4 module is the lower-cost choice; LR4 is the part to specify when the span needs the full 10 km of single-mode reach. Confirm the host port is provisioned for 400GbE LR4 and that KP4 FEC matches at both ends during commissioning.

Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms, the MMS1V90-WR compatible is made to order on a 2-week lead time and ships with a lifetime warranty. For volume pricing or deployment questions, contact our sales team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Mellanox MMS1V90-WR the same optic as the NVIDIA-branded MMS1V90-WR?

Yes. MMS1V90-WR predates the NVIDIA acquisition of Mellanox Technologies in April 2020. The part number stayed unchanged after the transceiver line moved to NVIDIA Networking, so a switch fitted with a Mellanox MMS1V90-WR and one fitted with the current NVIDIA MMS1V90-WR are running the same 400GBASE-LR4 QSFP-DD optic. The Mellanox part number remains the right reference for engineers ordering against legacy purchase orders or documentation that still cites the Mellanox brand, and the compatible module matches the original optic either way.
