Palo Alto Networks compatible PAN-QSFP-40GBASE-BIDI Description

EdgeOptic's PAN-QSFP-40GBASE-BIDI compatible is a Palo Alto Networks-coded version of the EdgeOptic BIDI-40G-QSFP-150 multi-vendor 40G BiDi QSFP+ transceiver. It runs 40G Ethernet at 41.25 Gbps over a single duplex LC connection on OM3, OM4 or OM5 multimode fiber, reaching 150 meters. The BiDi design carries transmit and receive wavelengths on one duplex fiber pair using dual 850/900nm optics, instead of the four fiber pairs a parallel-optics 40G QSFP+ needs.

The module uses a VCSEL transmitter and a PIN photodiode receiver, with a 2 dB average optical link budget. Launch power runs -4 to 5 dBm per lane and receive sensitivity spans -6 to 3 dBm per lane, with a 3 dBm receiver overload limit. Two wavelength channels cover 832 to 868nm and 882 to 918nm across a 36nm total bandwidth. DDM/DOM diagnostics report temperature, voltage, bias current, and Tx/Rx power in real time. Operating temperature is rated 0 to 70C on a single 3.3V supply.

Palo Alto Networks maintains its own third-party optics policy for firewalls and switches that take QSFP+ modules. Verify the current compatibility matrix for the target PAN-OS release and hardware platform before deployment. Since this is a BiDi module, don't confuse it with a 40GBASE-SR4 QSFP+, which needs an MPO/MTP-12 parallel-fiber cable instead of the duplex LC/UPC connector this part uses.

Built on the EdgeOptic BIDI-40G-QSFP-150 multi-vendor 40G BiDi QSFP+, this compatible carries EdgeOptic's lifetime warranty and is backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms, shipping next business day from EU stock. Frequently Asked Questions

Does Palo Alto Networks support third-party (non-PAN-branded) transceivers like this compatible module?

Palo Alto Networks publishes a third-party optics policy rather than a blanket restriction, but what's actually accepted depends on the specific hardware platform and PAN-OS release. Verify the current compatibility matrix for the target platform and PAN-OS version before deploying the PAN-QSFP-40GBASE-BIDI compatible.
