Palo Alto Networks compatible PAN-QSFP28-100GBASE-BIDI Description
EdgeOptic's PAN-QSFP28-100GBASE-BIDI compatible is a Palo Alto-coded 100G SR-BiDi version of the EdgeOptic multi-vendor 100G BiDi transceiver, built to the same QSFP28 MSA (SFF-8665) specification as the OEM part and coded for multiple vendor codes so it drops into Palo Alto PA-series firewalls with QSFP28 ports.
The module carries 100G over two fibers using 2x50G PAM4, with a VCSEL transmitter and a PIN photodiode receiver. One strand sends at 850 nm while the other sends at 900 nm, and a wideband receiver covering 832 to 918 nm picks up both directions. This is a single module type used at both ends of the link over standard duplex LC/UPC, with the strands crossed during patching, so there is no separate companion module to order for the far end.
Reach over multimode fiber is 70 m on OM3, 100 m on OM4, and 150 m on OM5, based on an average optical link budget of 1.9 dB. Actual distance depends on the installed cabling. The module runs host-side FEC, supports DOM/DDM diagnostics for live monitoring of temperature, voltage, bias, and optical power, and operates across the 0 to 70 C commercial range.
Palo Alto PA-series firewalls are Ethernet security appliances, so this module is scoped to 100G Ethernet. Confirm QSFP28 port support and BiDi module support against the Palo Alto Networks transceiver compatibility table for your firewall model before deployment. The EEPROM is coded so the optic is recognized as a Palo Alto-compatible part.
Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms. Made to order with a 2-week lead time and a lifetime warranty included. For platform-specific questions or volume pricing, contact our sales team.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Palo Alto Networks support third-party QSFP28 transceivers in place of the OEM PAN-QSFP28-100GBASE-BIDI?
Palo Alto Networks states that its support will not verify compatibility for transceivers it does not sell, so third-party optics are used outside that policy. EdgeOptic's compatible is coded with Palo Alto-recognized EEPROM so PA-series firewalls accept it as a 100G SR-BiDi module, and it works on PA-series chassis equipped with QSFP28 ports. Verify the port and BiDi module support against the Palo Alto Networks transceiver compatibility table for your firewall model before deployment.
