PLANET compatible MGB-SX Description

EdgeOptic's MGB-SX compatible is a PLANET-coded version of the EdgeOptic 1.25G-SFP-550D multi-vendor 1000BASE-SX transceiver. It runs Gigabit Ethernet at 1.25 Gbps (IEEE 802.3z) and 1G Fibre Channel SW at 1.0625 Gbps over duplex multimode fiber, with an 850 nm VCSEL transmitter and a PIN photodiode receiver.

The module carries a 7.5 dB optical budget and reaches 550 m over OM2 multimode fiber (50/125, 500 MHz·km) and 275 m over OM1 (62.5/125). Transmit power runs from -9.5 to +3 dBm, with receiver sensitivity better than -17 dBm. It uses a duplex LC/UPC interface and supports DDM/DOM diagnostics for live readings of optical power, bias current and temperature. Operating range is 0 to 70°C, built to the INF-8074i SFP MSA on a +3.3V supply, CE/RoHS, Class 1 laser safety.

MGB-SX is PLANET's ordering code for the 850 nm 1000BASE-SX module in its MGB series. PLANET markets the series under its Mini GBIC trade name and documents it as a 1000BASE-SX/LX SFP transceiver with a dual LC/UPC connector. EdgeOptic codes the EEPROM with PLANET-recognized data, so the module is accepted by PLANET switches and media converters that take a standard SFP. The 0 to 70°C operating range meets and exceeds the 0 to 60°C PLANET publishes for its own MGB-SX. Verify the supported module list in PLANET's documentation for your switch.

Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms. Ships next business day from EU stock with a lifetime warranty. For ordering-code confirmation or platform questions, contact our sales team.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the PLANET MGB-SX differ from the MGB-SX2?

Both codes carry PLANET's IEEE 802.3z 1000BASE-SX label, but they are not the same optic. PLANET's MGB-Series table documents the MGB-SX at 850 nm with a maximum distance of 550 m, and the MGB-SX2 at 1310 nm with a maximum distance of 2 km, both over multimode fiber. An 850 nm module will not link to a 1310 nm module at the far end, so check the ordering code on PLANET's product page against the parts at both ends before ordering. EdgeOptic's MGB-SX compatible is the 850 nm 550 m part.
