PLANET compatible MTB-LR Description

The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the PLANET MTB-LR 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver. It provides 10 Gigabit Ethernet over single-mode fiber at 1310nm, reaching up to 10km with a duplex LC connector. PLANET EEPROM coded for plug-and-play operation.

The transceiver operates at 10.3125 Gbps, supporting 10GBASE-LR per IEEE 802.3ae. It uses a 1310nm DFB laser transmitter paired with a PIN photodiode receiver, with a minimum link budget of 6dB over standard G.652 single-mode fiber. Dual-rate operation at 1G Ethernet (1.25 Gbps) is also supported on ports that allow rate negotiation.

This module is compatible with PLANET XGS-6350, XGS-5240, and SGS-6341 series managed switches with 10G SFP+ uplink slots. PLANET does not lock third-party optics — any MSA-compliant SFP+ module is accepted.

PLANET uses the MTB (Media Transceiver Base) prefix for their optics line. MTB-LR is 10GBASE-LR (1310nm, 10km SMF). MTB-SR is the multimode variant (850nm, 300m). MTB-LR20 extends reach to 20km with higher transmit power.

Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) is supported per SFF-8472. The module reports TX/RX optical power, temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage in real time. CE/RoHS certified, commercial temperature range (0 to 70 °C).

All EdgeOptic modules ship with a lifetime warranty and are tested before dispatch. For volume pricing or project support, contact our sales team.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PLANET MTB-LR and MTB-LR20?

Both are 1310nm single-mode SFP+ modules. MTB-LR reaches 10km (10GBASE-LR). MTB-LR20 reaches 20km with a higher transmit power. Use MTB-LR20 for campus links exceeding 10km.
