PLANET MTB-RJ Compatible 10GBASE-T SFP+ Copper Transceiver for XGS Managed Switches

EdgeOptic's MTB-RJ compatible is a PLANET-coded version of the EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-T multi-vendor 10GBASE-T copper SFP+ transceiver. The module EEPROM is programmed to match the PLANET MTB-RJ vendor profile so the part enumerates identically to the OEM module on PLANET commercial managed switches that reference this ordering code in their transceiver compatibility list. Reach is 30 m at 10G on Cat 6A or Cat 7 unshielded twisted pair, with the same multi-rate envelope as the OEM SKU.

The transceiver operates per IEEE 802.3an for 10GBASE-T and IEEE 802.3bz for 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T, with 1000BASE-T multi-rate fallback per IEEE 802.3ab. Reach is 30 m at 10G on Cat 6A or Cat 7, with extended 100 m reach at 2.5G and 1G on Cat 5e or better; 5GBASE-T requires Cat 6 or better for the full 100 m reach per IEEE 802.3bz Clause 126. The multi-rate envelope supports wiring-closet upgrades that step from 1G to 2.5G or 5G before committing to a full 10G cable plant. Electrical and management interfaces follow SFF-8431 and SFF-8432.

PLANET markets the MTB-RJ for use with PLANET commercial managed switches and third-party equipment with 10G SFP+ uplink cages, including the XGS-series enterprise, telecom and ISP product lines. Specific PLANET XGS switch model coverage varies; verify against the PLANET transceiver compatibility list for the target XGS model before ordering. Multi-rate negotiation on the switch side depends on the XGS firmware port profile, and some older XGS firmware revisions only expose 1G and 10G on SFP+ ports. In that case, upgrade switch firmware before provisioning 2.5G or 5G client links.

Operating temperature covers 0 to 65 °C commercial grade on a +3.3 V single supply, with CE and RoHS certification. Because this is a copper part with no laser, DOM telemetry is scoped to the fields that apply to a non-optical SFP+: case temperature, supply voltage and link status. Transmit optical power, receive optical power and laser bias current do not exist on this module and are not reported through PLANET switch CLI or web management output.
