PLANET compatible QSFP-100G-LR4 Description

EdgeOptic's QSFP-100G-LR4 compatible is a Planet-coded 100GBASE-LR4 QSFP28 transceiver built on the EdgeOptic 100G-QSFP28-10 platform. QSFP-100G-LR4 is Planet Technology's ordering code for a 100G QSFP28 LR4 module aimed at Planet switch products with 100GBASE-LR4 QSFP28 ports. The EdgeOptic compatible carries Planet-recognized EEPROM identifiers so the host switch surfaces the expected QSFP-100G-LR4 ordering code in CLI and management telemetry, and it ships with the same wavelength plan, electrical interface, and SFF-8636 management profile as the OEM module. The module slots into a standard QSFP28 cage and follows the same insertion, hot-swap, and DDM behavior as the OEM module.

The optical interface follows IEEE 802.3ba Clause 88 100GBASE-LR4. Four 25.78 Gbps NRZ lanes ride the LAN WDM grid at 1295.56, 1300.05, 1304.58, and 1309.14 nm, then multiplex onto a single LC duplex pair of single-mode fiber. The 6.3 dB optical path loss budget supports a full 10 km reach on G.652 SMF. Host electrical interface is CAUI-4 per IEEE 802.3bm. Power dissipation stays at 3.5 W on a single 3.3 V supply, the operating temperature window is 0 to 70 C commercial, and the module reports DDM telemetry per SFF-8636 for tx power, rx power, bias current, supply voltage, and case temperature.

The Planet QSFP-100G-LR4 is a different vendor SKU from the Cisco QSFP-100G-LR4-S despite the visually similar model-number pattern. Both follow the same IEEE 802.3ba 100GBASE-LR4 optical specification, but each carries vendor-specific EEPROM coding for its target platform. Engineers ordering replacement optics for a Planet switch should specify QSFP-100G-LR4; engineers ordering for a Cisco platform should specify QSFP-100G-LR4-S. EdgeOptic's compatible matches the original optical and electrical specifications and carries the QSFP-100G-LR4 ordering code so procurement records and chassis inventory output stay consistent with the Planet part numbering. The compatible carries Class 1 laser safety classification, RoHS compliance, and CE marking.

Compatible with Planet switch products that accept QSFP28 100GBASE-LR4 optics; verify the entry for your specific switch model in the Planet transceiver compatibility documentation before deployment. Ships next business day from EU stock with a lifetime warranty. Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms. Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Planet QSFP-100G-LR4 the same as the Cisco QSFP-100G-LR4-S?

No. Both modules follow the IEEE 802.3ba 100GBASE-LR4 optical specification (4x25G LAN WDM, 10 km on SMF, LC duplex, QSFP28 form factor), but each carries vendor-specific EEPROM coding. The Planet QSFP-100G-LR4 is coded for Planet switch products; the Cisco QSFP-100G-LR4-S is coded for Cisco platforms. The two are not interchangeable across vendors at the EEPROM layer even though the optical interface is identical. Specify the Planet ordering reference for Planet equipment and the Cisco ordering reference for Cisco equipment.
