Our EDGEOPTIC 100G-QSFP28-SL20 is a multi-vendor compatible 100G-LR1 Single Lambda QSFP28 optical module designed for next-generation 100 Gigabit Ethernet applications operating over single-mode fiber infrastructure. This quad small form-factor pluggable transceiver utilizes advanced PAM4 (Pulse Amplitude Modulation 4-level) encoding on a single optical lane, delivering 106.25 Gbps throughput for extended-reach data center interconnects and metro network deployments.

The 100G-QSFP28-SL20 module operates at 1310nm wavelength using single lambda technology with PAM4 modulation, representing a significant evolution from traditional NRZ-based 4x25G LR4 architectures. Our 100G-LR1 QSFP28 transceiver utilizes EML (Electro-absorption Modulated Laser) for transmission and PIN photodiode for receiving, with integrated CDR (Clock and Data Recovery) circuitry to maintain signal integrity at PAM4 data rates. This architecture delivers 100G capacity over just two fibers instead of the wavelength multiplexing complexity required by traditional LR4 solutions.

Transceiver ensures a 7.1 dB guaranteed optical link budget, which determines the maximum transmission distance. Over standard single-mode fiber with FEC enabled, the transceiver can reach distances up to 20 kilometers. However, distance is just an indicative parameter calculated for comfort of identification – eventually we calculate distance taking into account minimal optical budget and average attenuation of optical cabling in industry. The LR1 20km specification provides extended reach beyond standard 10km single lambda modules while maintaining simplified duplex fiber architecture.

100G-QSFP28-SL20 compatible 100G-LR1 module is a hot-pluggable QSFP28 with dual LC/UPC connectors as the optical interface. The electrical interface conforms to 100G Lambda MSA, QSFP28 MSA, SFF-8636, and SFF-8665 specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard QSFP28 host systems supporting multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our 100G-LR1 QSFP28 transceiver can be encoded to be compatible and successfully operate in different 80+ brands of equipment.

The module incorporates DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality providing real-time information including transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. The module features Built-in FEC (Forward Error Correction) which is essential for PAM4 modulation to detect and correct bit errors, ensuring reliable transmission across the extended 20km reach. The module operates within a 0 to 70°C temperature range with maximum power consumption of 4.5W.

Standards compliance includes 100G Lambda MSA, QSFP28 MSA, SFF-8636, and SFF-8665 specifications. Our 100G-LR1 QSFP28 transceiver is CE/RoHS certified, Class 1 FDA and IEC60825-1 Laser Safety Compliant.
