Our EDGEOPTIC BIDI-100G-QSFP28-151 is a multi-vendor compatible 100G SR-BiDi QSFP28 bidirectional optical module designed for 100 Gigabit Ethernet applications operating over multimode fiber infrastructure with single-fiber connectivity. This quad small form-factor pluggable transceiver utilizes wavelength division to enable full-duplex 100G transmission over a single multimode fiber strand, delivering up to 106.25 Gbps throughput while reducing fiber count requirements by 75% compared to standard SR4 solutions.
The BIDI-100G-QSFP28-151 module operates using bidirectional technology with 850nm wavelength for transmission and 900nm wavelength for reception on the same fiber, employing NRZ (Non-Return to Zero) modulation for signal encoding. Our 100G SR-BiDi QSFP28 transceiver utilizes VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) array for transmission and PIN photodiode array for receiving. This BiDi architecture enables significant fiber infrastructure savings in environments where multimode fiber count is limited or expensive to expand.
Transceiver ensures a 1.9 dB guaranteed optical link budget, which determines the maximum transmission distance. Over OM5 multimode fiber, the transceiver can reach distances up to 150 meters, with reduced distances on OM3 and OM4 fiber types. However, distance is just an indicative parameter calculated for comfort of identification – eventually we calculate distance taking into account minimal optical budget and average attenuation of optical cabling in industry. The single LC connector interface dramatically simplifies cabling compared to MPO-based parallel solutions.
BIDI-100G-QSFP28-151 compatible 100G SR-BiDi module is a hot-pluggable QSFP28 with single LC/UPC connector as the optical interface. The electrical interface conforms to SFF-8436 and QSFP28 MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard QSFP28 host systems supporting multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our 100G SR-BiDi QSFP28 transceiver can be encoded to be compatible and successfully operate in different 80+ brands of equipment.
The module incorporates DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality providing real-time information including transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. Additionally, the module supports Host FEC (Forward Error Correction) function which helps the receiving side detect and correct bit errors, improving overall link quality. The module operates within a 0 to 70°C temperature range with maximum power consumption of 4W.
Standards compliance includes IEEE 802.3bm for 100 Gigabit Ethernet 100GBASE SR-BiDi specification and QSFP28 MSA. Our 100G SR-BiDi QSFP28 transceiver is CE/RoHS certified, Class 1 FDA and IEC60825-1 Laser Safety Compliant.
Important: BiDi transceivers must be deployed in matched pairs with complementary wavelength configurations. This module (Tx 850nm/Rx 900nm) connects to a complementary module with Tx 900nm/Rx 850nm configuration. Proper pairing ensures correct bidirectional communication over the single fiber strand.
