The EDGEOPTIC BIDI-100G-QSFP28-151 is a 100G SR-BiDi QSFP28 bidirectional optical module compatible with multiple vendor platforms. It supports 100 Gigabit Ethernet over multimode fiber using single-fiber connectivity. By using wavelength division for full-duplex 100G transmission on a single multimode fiber strand, the module delivers up to 106.25 Gbps throughput while reducing fiber count by 75% compared to standard SR4 solutions.

The BIDI-100G-QSFP28-151 operates bidirectionally at 850 nm (transmit) and 900 nm (receive) on the same fiber, using PAM4 (Pulse Amplitude Modulation 4-level) signal encoding. The transmitter section uses a VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) array; the receiver section uses a PIN photodiode array. This BiDi architecture delivers significant fiber savings in environments where multimode fiber count is limited or costly to expand.

The guaranteed optical link budget is 1.9 dB. Over OM5 multimode fiber, the transceiver supports distances up to 150 meters, with reduced reach on OM3 and OM4 fiber types. Note that distance is an indicative parameter -- actual reach depends on the minimal optical budget and average attenuation characteristics of the deployed fiber plant. The single LC connector interface simplifies cabling compared to MPO-based parallel solutions.

The module is a hot-pluggable QSFP28 with a single LC/UPC connector as its optical interface. The electrical interface conforms to SFF-8436 and QSFP28 MSA specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard QSFP28 host systems across multiple vendor platforms. The transceiver can be encoded for over 80 equipment brands.

DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) provides real-time readings of transmitted and received optical power, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. The module also supports host-side FEC (Forward Error Correction) for bit-error detection and correction, improving overall link quality. The operating temperature range is 0 to 70°C, with maximum power consumption of 4W.

The module complies with IEEE 802.3bm for 100 Gigabit Ethernet 100GBASE SR-BiDi and QSFP28 MSA. It is CE/RoHS certified and compliant with Class 1 FDA and IEC60825-1 laser safety standards.

Important: BiDi transceivers must be deployed in matched pairs with complementary wavelength configurations. This module (Tx 850 nm / Rx 900 nm) connects to a complementary module (Tx 900 nm / Rx 850 nm). Proper pairing is required for correct bidirectional communication over the single fiber strand.

Common applications include data center environments with limited fiber availability, capacity upgrades without new fiber installation, and deployments where single-fiber connectivity is preferred over parallel multimode solutions.

All units undergo quality verification before delivery, including optical parameter measurements, connector cleanliness inspection, and QSFP28 EEPROM memory validation.
