Our EDGEOPTIC BIDI-100G-QSFP28-20B is a multi-vendor compatible 100G BiDi 4WDM-20 QSFP28 bidirectional optical module designed for 100 Gigabit Ethernet applications operating over single-mode fiber infrastructure with single-fiber connectivity. This quad small form-factor pluggable transceiver utilizes wavelength division to enable full-duplex 100G transmission over a single fiber strand, delivering 103.125 Gbps throughput while reducing fiber count requirements by 50% compared to standard duplex solutions.
The BIDI-100G-QSFP28-20B module operates using 4WDM bidirectional technology with four LAN WDM wavelength channels at 1295.56nm, 1300.05nm, 1304.58nm, and 1309.14nm for transmission (Red Side TOSA) and four O-Band wavelength channels at 1273.55nm, 1277.89nm, 1282.26nm, and 1286.66nm for reception (Blue Side ROSA). Our 100G BiDi QSFP28 transceiver utilizes EML (Electro-absorption Modulated Laser) array for transmission and PIN photodiode array for receiving, employing NRZ (Non-Return to Zero) modulation for signal encoding.
Transceiver ensures a 10.2 dB guaranteed optical link budget, which determines the maximum transmission distance. Over standard single-mode fiber with FEC enabled, the transceiver can reach distances up to 20 kilometers. However, distance is just an indicative parameter calculated for comfort of identification – eventually we calculate distance taking into account minimal optical budget and average attenuation of optical cabling in industry. The single-fiber 4WDM architecture provides significant infrastructure savings for metro and campus deployments.
BIDI-100G-QSFP28-20B compatible 100G BiDi 4WDM module is a hot-pluggable QSFP28 with single LC/UPC connector as the optical interface. The electrical interface conforms to QSFP28 MSA and SFF-8679 specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard QSFP28 host systems supporting multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our 100G BiDi QSFP28 transceiver can be encoded to be compatible and successfully operate in different 80+ brands of equipment.
The module incorporates DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality providing real-time information including transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. Additionally, the module supports Host FEC (Forward Error Correction) function which helps the receiving side detect and correct bit errors, improving overall link quality. The module operates within an extended temperature range of -20°C to +85°C with maximum power consumption of 5W, enabling deployment in semi-industrial environments.
Standards compliance includes IEEE 802.3cu, CAUI-4, and QSFP28 MSA specifications. Our 100G BiDi QSFP28 transceiver is CE/RoHS certified.
Important: BiDi transceivers must be deployed in matched pairs with complementary wavelength configurations. This Side B module (Tx LAN WDM/Rx O-Band) must connect to a Side A module (BIDI-100G-QSFP28-20A) with Tx O-Band/Rx LAN WDM configuration. Proper pairing ensures correct bidirectional communication over the single fiber strand.
Typical applications include metro network interconnections, campus backbone links, and deployments where fiber conservation is critical. The 4WDM BiDi design provides 20km reach capability over single fiber infrastructure.
