RAD compatible QSFP28-4D Description
EdgeOptic's QSFP28-4D compatible is a RAD-coded 100GBASE-ER4 Lite QSFP28 transceiver for 40 km links over single-mode fiber. RAD Data Communications uses the QSFP28-4D model number for the 40 km ER4 Lite reach class within their carrier Ethernet access portfolio. EdgeOptic's compatible matches the original electrical and optical specifications and ships with the EEPROM identification expected by RAD host equipment.
Optical specifications follow the 100GBASE-ER4 Lite specification: four LAN-WDM channels at 1295.56, 1300.05, 1304.58, and 1309.14 nm, EML transmitters, APD receivers, LC duplex SMF, and 103.125 Gbps line rate over a 4-lane CAUI-4 100GE host interface (4 x 25.78125 Gbps). The optical link budget is 22 dB with FEC enabled at the host, supporting the 40 km design reach, and 18 dB without FEC. DDM is supported through the SFF-8636 management interface for TX power, RX power, bias current, voltage, and temperature monitoring at the host CLI.
Power consumption is rated at 4.5 W maximum, and the operating temperature range is 0 to 70 °C. The module is compliant with SFF-8665 QSFP28 MSA mechanicals and the 100GBASE-ER4 Lite specification, and carries CE and RoHS certification. FEC at the host is required to achieve the full 40 km reach budget. Pair the QSFP28-4D with another 100GBASE-ER4 Lite optic on the far end for a clean reach-class match across the LAN-WDM wavelength grid.
Works with RAD carrier Ethernet access aggregation platforms in the ETX series and related RAD service-edge equipment that accept QSFP28 ER4 Lite optics. Don't confuse the QSFP28-4D with siblings in the RAD numeric line: QSFP28-2D covers SR4 multimode and QSFP28-1D-DML covers 10 km LR4. Each RAD model number is reach-class specific and EEPROM-coded for its target chassis configuration; verify the part number on the module being replaced before ordering.
