RAD compatible SFP-5D Description

EdgeOptic's SFP-5D compatible is a RAD-coded version of the EdgeOptic 1.25G-SFP-550D multi-vendor 1000BASE-SX transceiver. It runs Gigabit Ethernet at 1.25 Gbps (IEEE 802.3z) and 1G Fibre Channel SW at 1.0625 Gbps over duplex multimode fiber, with an 850 nm VCSEL transmitter and a PIN photodiode receiver.

A 7.5 dB optical budget supports 550 m over OM2 multimode fiber (50/125, 500 MHz·km) and 275 m over OM1 (62.5/125). The module uses a duplex LC/UPC interface and supports DDM/DOM diagnostics for live readings of optical power, bias current and temperature. It operates across the commercial 0 to 70°C range, built to the INF-8074i SFP MSA, +3.3V supply, CE/RoHS, Class 1 laser safety.

SFP-5D is RAD's ordering code for this 1G SX SFP. RAD's pluggable transceivers data sheet lists it as 1000BASE-SX (IEEE 802.3) on 850 nm over 50/125 multimode with a VCSEL transmitter and a 0.55 km typical maximum range. EdgeOptic codes the EEPROM with RAD-recognized data so the module is accepted on RAD equipment. Is the RAD SFP-5D an industrially hardened module?

No. RAD's data sheet legend defines the D suffix as internal DDM calibration and reserves the H suffix for industrially hardened SFPs, and SFP-5D carries no H. RAD lists SFP-5D on the same optical-parameters row as its H-suffixed codes, so the optics match across those codes; the H codes are the industrially hardened grade.
