Source Photonics SP-25E-LR-xDFR Compatible 25GBASE-LR SFP28

EdgeOptic's SP-25E-LR-xDFR compatible is a Source Photonics-coded version of the EdgeOptic 25G-SFP28-10 multi-vendor 25GBASE-LR transceiver. It carries the EEPROM identification a Source Photonics-equipped host expects, so it drops into 25GBASE-LR slots and reports through the host management interface like the original module. The original Source Photonics SP-25E-LR-xDFR is a 25G LR Lite SFP28 specified for up to 2 km over single-mode fiber. The EdgeOptic compatible alternative is a full 10 km 25GBASE-LR SFP28, so it covers the 2 km application the SP-25E-LR-xDFR was selected for and also supports longer single-mode runs where the fiber plant is, or may become, longer. If a deployment is fixed at the short LR Lite reach, the EdgeOptic compatible still operates correctly within that distance.

The transceiver operates at 1310 nm over duplex single-mode fiber on a Double LC/UPC connection and carries a 5 dB average optical path loss budget. Transmit launch power runs from a minimum of −7 dBm to a maximum of +2 dBm, receiver sensitivity is rated at −12 dBm, and the receiver tolerates an overload of +3 dBm. The host sets up the link to IEEE 802.3cc; the module does not perform forward error correction, so any FEC runs host-side when the host enables it.

The module runs both 25G Ethernet at 25.78 Gbps and 10G Ethernet at 10.31 Gbps, with supported serial rates of 8.5 and 25.78 Gbps. DDM/DOM is supported for live monitoring of transmit power, receive power, laser bias, temperature, and supply voltage. Power draw is held to 1.2 W maximum, and the module operates across the 0 to 70 °C commercial temperature range. It is built to the SFP28 MSA and SFF-8431, SFF-8432 and SFF-8472 specifications, and is CE marked, RoHS compliant, and Class 1 laser safe. The SP-25E-LR family uses an x temperature wildcard: SP-25E-LR-CDFR is the commercial 0 to 70 °C build and SP-25E-LR-IDFR is the industrial build; this EdgeOptic compatible matches the commercial CDFR grade.
