Source Photonics compatible SPQ-CS-LR-CDFF Description

EdgeOptic's SPQ-CS-LR-CDFF compatible is a Source Photonics-coded QSFP28 transceiver built on our 100G-QSFP28-10 hardware platform with Source Photonics-recognised EEPROM programmed at the factory. The OEM SPQ-CS-LR-CDFF is rated for dual-rate operation: it supports 100GBASE-LR4 Ethernet (103.125 Gbps) and OTU4 4L1-9D1F transport (111.81 Gbps line rate per ITU-T G.709). This dual-rate capability is the entire reason this SKU exists alongside the SPQ-CE-LR-CDFF sibling, which is Ethernet-only at the 100GE rate.

On host equipment that presents 100G client ports as either Ethernet or OTU4, SPQ-CS-LR-CDFF covers both modes from a single optic. Selecting the Ethernet-only SPQ-CE-LR-CDFF on a port that needs to run OTU4 will not work, and selecting SPQ-CS-LR-CDFF on a port that only ever runs Ethernet over-specifies the optic. Match the BOM exactly to the configured port mode rather than substituting between the CS and CE forms; EdgeOptic ships separate SKUs with EEPROM coded for each.

The optical layer conforms to IEEE 802.3-2018 100GBASE-LR4 (Clause 88, originally IEEE 802.3ba). A cooled EML transmitter array drives four LAN WDM channels at 1295.56, 1300.05, 1304.58 and 1309.14 nm, multiplexed onto a single duplex LC single-mode fiber pair. PIN photodiode receivers recover the wavelengths at the far end. Each lane carries 25.78125 Gbps NRZ for the 100GbE rate (103.125 Gbps aggregate); the OTU4 path runs the same lanes at the OTU4 line rate of 111.81 Gbps. The optical path loss budget of 6.3 dB supports the full 10 km G.652 SMF reach. TX and RX optical power, module temperature, supply voltage and laser bias current are exposed via SFF-8636 DDM telemetry. Module power draw stays within the 3.5 W QSFP28 envelope.

QSFP28 MSA (SFF-8665) and SFF-8636 management compliance covers the electrical and software interfaces. The duplex LC connector accepts standard SMF patch cords and the commercial 0 to 70 °C operating temperature range covers typical metro-transport and central-office environments. Source Photonics manufactures OEM transceivers integrated into multiple network-equipment vendors' transport platforms, so the canonical host-platform list for any specific deployment will live in the host vendor's compatibility documentation rather than in a Source Photonics datasheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between SPQ-CS-LR-CDFF and SPQ-CE-LR-CDFF?

SPQ-CS-LR-CDFF supports both 100GBASE-LR4 Ethernet (103.125 Gbps) and OTU4 4L1-9D1F transport (111.81 Gbps line rate); the OEM lists the data-rate range as 103.1 to 111.8 Gb/s for this reason. SPQ-CE-LR-CDFF supports 100GBASE-LR4 Ethernet only at the 103.125 Gbps rate. The dual-rate OTU4 capability is the functional differentiator between the two SKUs. Order against the exact part number on the BOM rather than substituting between the CS and CE forms.

Does the EdgeOptic compatible SPQ-CS-LR-CDFF support OTU4 applications?

Yes. The OEM SPQ-CS-LR-CDFF is rated for OTU4 4L1-9D1F at 111.81 Gbps in addition to 100GBASE-LR4 Ethernet, and EdgeOptic's compatible is coded with EEPROM that identifies as the SPQ-CS variant on the host. Whether your specific deployment can run the OTU4 mode depends on EdgeOptic engineering qualification of the platform under that protocol; for any OTU4 transport configuration, contact our sales team for engineering verification before ordering at volume. For BOM verification against a specific OTU4 transport configuration, contact EdgeOptic engineering before ordering at volume.

Which host platforms or chassis use the SPQ-CS-LR-CDFF?

Source Photonics manufactures OEM transceivers that ship inside multiple network-equipment vendors' transport platforms, so SPQ-CS-LR-CDFF appears as a host-vendor optic across various 100G transport chassis rather than against one specific platform. Source Photonics does not publish a single host-platform compatibility table. To confirm whether a given chassis qualifies SPQ-CS-LR-CDFF, consult the host vendor's compatibility matrix for that line card.

Can the SPQ-CS-LR-CDFF connect to any standards-compliant 100GBASE-LR4 port at the far end?

Yes for the optical layer. 100GBASE-LR4 is an IEEE 802.3 standard with a defined LAN WDM wavelength plan and an LC duplex SMF interface, so any standards-compliant 100GBASE-LR4 port at the far side will interoperate optically. For OTU4 transport mode, both ends must be configured for OTU4 framing on the host; the OTU4 line rate (111.81 Gbps per ITU-T G.709) sets the wire speed independent of the Ethernet path.
