TRENDnet compatible TEG-10GBRJ Description

EdgeOptic's TRENDnet TEG-10GBRJ compatible is a TRENDnet-coded 10GBASE-T copper SFP+ transceiver for TRENDnet SMB managed switches with 10G SFP+ ports. EdgeOptic programs the module EEPROM to match the TRENDnet TEG-10GBRJ vendor profile so the transceiver enumerates identically to the OEM module on TRENDnet platforms that reference this ordering code in their compatibility documentation.

Confirmed platform context covers TRENDnet's TEG managed switch families: TEG-30262 (28-port switch with 4x 10G SFP+ uplinks) and TEG-40128WS (12-port 10G web smart switch with 2x 10G SFP+ slots and 2x shared RJ45/SFP+ slots). Any TRENDnet switch with a standard SFP+ cage accepts the TEG-10GBRJ. TRENDnet's own support documentation states that the TEG-10GBRJ does not incorporate proprietary mechanisms and conforms to SFP+ MSA, which means the part will also enumerate in MSA-compliant non-TRENDnet switches that do not enforce a vendor-ID allow-list. The EdgeOptic compatible maintains that same MSA-standard behaviour while still presenting the TRENDnet EEPROM vendor ID for recognition on TRENDnet hardware.

The transceiver operates per IEEE 802.3an for 10GBASE-T and IEEE 802.3bz for 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T, with 1000BASE-T multi-rate fallback. Reach is 30 m at 10G on Cat6a or Cat7, with extended 50 m reach at 5G and 2.5G on Cat5e per TRENDnet's specification, and 100 m at 1G on Cat5e. IEEE 802.3bz Clause 126 places 5GBASE-T on Cat 6 minimum for standard reach; the 50 m-on-Cat5e figure is TRENDnet's vendor-specific reduced-reach claim, so verify the cable plant before relying on the 5G rate over Cat5e. The multi-rate envelope supports SMB wiring closets that run mixed-generation client devices on the same switch. Electrical and management interfaces follow SFF-8431 and SFF-8432.

Operating temperature covers 0 to 65 °C commercial grade with CE and RoHS certification. Because this is a copper module, DOM telemetry is scoped to the fields that apply to a non-optical SFP+: case temperature, supply voltage, and link status. Transmit optical power, receive optical power, and laser bias current do not exist on this part and are not reported through TRENDnet switch CLI or web management output. Copper 10GBASE-T transceivers run warm by design; for sustained full-rate traffic, verify that the host switch has adequate ventilation per the switch's own thermal guidance.

Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical and copper SFP+ platforms. Ships next business day from EU stock with a lifetime warranty. Frequently Asked Questions

TRENDnet states the TEG-10GBRJ is MSA-compliant with no proprietary mechanisms. Will it also work in non-TRENDnet switches?

In principle, yes. TRENDnet's own support documentation states that the TEG-10GBRJ does not incorporate proprietary mechanisms and conforms to SFP+ MSA. An MSA-compliant host switch enumerates the module through the generic SFP+ inventory path. EdgeOptic's compatible maintains the same MSA-standard behaviour. That said, some switch vendors (notably Cisco, Juniper and HPE with enforcement modes enabled) validate EEPROM vendor IDs against an allow-list; a TRENDnet-coded module will not match the allow-list on those platforms, and for those environments select a compatible coded to the host vendor.

Does the TEG-10GBRJ support 2.5G and 5G speeds for connecting legacy devices to a 10G switch fabric?

Yes. TRENDnet's own spec lists 1G, 2.5G, 5G and 10G multi-rate support per IEEE 802.3an and 802.3bz. Reach is 30 m at 10G on Cat6a or Cat7, 50 m at 5G and 2.5G on Cat5e per TRENDnet's specification, and 100 m at 1G on Cat5e. Note that IEEE 802.3bz Clause 126 specifies Cat 6 minimum for standard 5GBASE-T; the 50 m-on-Cat5e figure is TRENDnet's vendor-specific reduced-reach claim, so verify the cable plant before relying on the 5G rate over Cat5e. Multi-rate negotiation on the switch side depends on the TRENDnet firmware port profile; verify that the port is configured for auto-negotiation rather than pinned to a fixed speed before connecting a 2.5G or 5G client.
