XGS-PON/GPON Combo OLT Class C+ SFP+ Transceiver Description
Our EDGEOPTIC 2.5-10XGSPON-SFP-C is multi-vendor compatible XGS-PON/GPON Combo Class C+ single-fiber SFP+ optical transceiver designed for next-generation Optical Line Terminal equipment supporting simultaneous legacy GPON and high-speed XGS-PON services. This combo module enables service providers to deploy future-proof PON infrastructure while maintaining backward compatibility with existing GPON ONT installations. The 2.5-10XGSPON-SFP-C operates as a dual-mode bidirectional transceiver, utilizing 1490nm/1310nm wavelengths for GPON and 1577nm/1270nm wavelengths for XGS-PON communication over a single strand of single-mode fiber. Our XGS-PON/GPON Combo SFP+ transceiver utilizes DFB (Distributed Feedback) laser for transmission and APD (Avalanche Photodiode) for receiving, supporting GPON asymmetric rates of 2.488 Gbps downstream and 1.244 Gbps upstream, alongside XGS-PON symmetric 9.953 Gbps operation as defined by ITU-T G.984.2 and ITU-T G.9807.1 standards.
The transceiver ensures a 35 dB guaranteed optical link budget, which determines the maximum transmission distance and split ratio capabilities in passive optical network architectures. This high power budget enables operators to maximize fiber infrastructure utilization through higher splitting ratios or extended reach deployments. The transmitter optical power ranges from +5 to +8 dBm, while receiver sensitivity reaches -29 dBm, supporting distances up to 20 kilometers over standard single-mode fiber infrastructure with typical PON splitting configurations. However, distance is just indicative parameter calculated for comfort of identification – eventually we calculate distance taking into account minimal optical budget, splitter insertion losses, and average attenuation of optical cabling in industry.
2.5-10XGSPON-SFP-C compatible XGS-PON/GPON Combo module is hot-pluggable SFP+ with single SC/UPC connector as an optical interface, designed specifically for combo PON port applications. The electrical interface conforms to SFF-8472 and SFP+ MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard SFP+ host systems across multiple OLT vendor equipment platforms. Our XGS-PON/GPON Combo SFP+ transceiver can be encoded to be compatible and successfully operate in different OLT brands including Huawei, ZTE, Nokia, and other major PON equipment manufacturers supporting combo functionality. The module incorporates DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality providing real-time information including transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. This diagnostic data are available via MSA-compatible EEPROM interface and enables monitoring of transceiver operational parameters critical for multi-service PON network maintenance. The module operates within industrial temperature range from -45°C to +85°C, suitable for outdoor cabinet and harsh environment deployments.
Standards compliance includes ITU-T G.984.2 for GPON, ITU-T G.987.2 for XG-PON, and ITU-T G.9807.1 for XGS-PON systems, along with SFP+ MSA mechanical specifications. The transceiver achieves multi-vendor interoperability through adherence to industry MSA standards, though equipment with vendor-specific module validation may require custom EEPROM programming for compatibility. Our XGS-PON/GPON Combo SFP+ transceiver is CE/RoHS certified, and it is compliant with Class 1 FDA and IEC60825-1 laser safety standards.
Typical applications include FTTH/FTTP network upgrades and migrations, telecommunications service providers transitioning to 10G PON services, greenfield deployments requiring future-proof infrastructure, and carrier-class broadband access systems serving mixed subscriber bases. Because our focus is providing top quality service, we are performing serious quality checks before delivery of our products. As a result, we do optical parameter measurements, connector cleanness tests and SFP+ transceiver EEPROM memory data validation tests.
