Our EDGEOPTIC 2.5GPON-SFP-C is multi-vendor compatible GPON OLT Class C+ single-fiber SFP optical transceiver designed for Optical Line Terminal equipment in demanding fiber-to-the-home and fiber-to-the-premises network deployments requiring extended optical reach. The 2.5GPON-SFP-C module operates as a bidirectional transceiver utilizing 1490nm wavelength for downstream transmission and 1310nm for upstream reception, enabling full-duplex communication over a single strand of single-mode fiber. Our GPON OLT Class C+ SFP transceiver utilizes DFB (Distributed Feedback) laser for transmission and APD (Avalanche Photodiode) for receiving, delivering asymmetric data rates of 2.488 Gbps downstream and 1.244 Gbps upstream as defined by ITU-T G.984.2 GPON standard.
The transceiver ensures a 33 dB guaranteed optical link budget, which determines the maximum transmission distance and split ratio capabilities in passive optical network architectures. This enhanced power budget compared to Class B+ modules enables higher splitting ratios or extended reach scenarios in access network planning. The transmitter optical power ranges from +3 to +7 dBm, while receiver sensitivity reaches -30 dBm, supporting distances up to 20 kilometers over standard single-mode fiber infrastructure. However, distance is just indicative parameter calculated for comfort of identification – eventually we calculate distance taking into account minimal optical budget, splitter insertion losses, and average attenuation of optical cabling in industry.
2.5GPON-SFP-C compatible GPON OLT Class C+ module is hot-pluggable SFP with single SC/PC connector as an optical interface, designed specifically for PON port applications. The electrical interface conforms to INF-8074i and SFF-8472 MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard SFP host systems across multiple OLT vendor equipment platforms. Our GPON OLT SFP transceiver can be encoded to be compatible and successfully operate in different OLT brands including Huawei, ZTE, Nokia, Calix, and other major PON equipment manufacturers. The module incorporates DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality providing real-time information including transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. This diagnostic data are available via MSA-compatible EEPROM interface and enables monitoring of transceiver operational parameters critical for PON network maintenance. The module operates within a 0 to 70°C temperature range, with appropriate thermal considerations for sustained operation in central office and controlled equipment room environments.
Standards compliance includes ITU-T G.984.2 for GPON systems, along with SFP MSA mechanical specifications. The transceiver achieves multi-vendor interoperability through adherence to industry MSA standards, though equipment with vendor-specific module validation may require custom EEPROM programming for compatibility.
