Our EDGEOPTIC 16GFC-SFP-20 is a multi-vendor compatible 16G Fiber Channel LWL (Long Wavelength) SFP+ dual-fiber optical module designed for extended-reach storage area network applications operating over single-mode fiber cabling. The 16GFC-SFP-20 module operates at 1310nm wavelength for both transmission and reception, with multi-rate data support from 4.25 to 14.025 Gbps enabling compatibility with 4G, 8G, 10G, and 16G Fiber Channel protocols. Our 16G FC-LWL SFP+ transceiver utilizes DFB (Distributed Feedback) laser technology for transmission and PIN photodiode for receiving. The transceiver ensures a 10 dB guaranteed optical link budget, providing substantial margin for reliable long-distance connectivity. Over standard single-mode fiber (SMF OS1/OS2), the transceiver reliably reaches distances up to 20 kilometers, making it ideal for metropolitan area SAN extensions and disaster recovery implementations. However, distance is just an indicative parameter calculated for comfort of identification – eventually we calculate distance taking into account minimal optical budget and average attenuation of optical cabling in industry.

16GFC-SFP-20 compatible 16G FC-LWL module is hot-pluggable SFP+ with duplex LC/UPC connectors as an optical interface. The electrical interface conforms to SFF-8431 MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard SFP+ host systems supporting multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our 16G FC-LWL SFP+ transceiver can be encoded to be compatible and successfully operate in different 80+ brands of storage and networking equipment. The module incorporates DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality providing real-time information including transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. This diagnostic data is available via MSA-compatible EEPROM interface and enables proactive monitoring of transceiver operational parameters. The module operates within a 0 to 70°C temperature range, with appropriate thermal considerations for sustained operation in controlled data center environments.

Standards compliance includes Fibre Channel 16GFC Physical Interface specifications (FC-PI-5 Rev 6.00) ensuring full protocol compatibility across 4G, 8G, 10G, and 16G Fiber Channel speeds. The enhanced optical output power range from -2 to 3 dBm combined with -12 dBm receiver sensitivity delivers the extended 20-kilometer reach capability. The receiver features a wide wavelength bandwidth of 110nm (1260-1370nm) ensuring compatibility with various optical sources while maintaining signal integrity. The transceiver achieves multi-vendor interoperability through adherence to industry MSA standards, though equipment with vendor-specific module validation may require custom EEPROM programming for compatibility.
