400G CFP2 BiDi Digital Coherent Optical Module Overview

The BIDI-400G-CFP2-DCO is a CFP2 pluggable digital coherent optical module with software-configurable line-side capacity across 100G, 200G, and 400G. The line side presents two dedicated LC/UPC ports, one transmit and one receive, each operating on a full C-band tunable coherent signal (Ch.13-61, 6.25 GHz flex grid). Coherent modulation from QPSK up to 16-QAM lets the operating point trade capacity for reach, with amplified DWDM links reaching up to 480 km and unamplified point-to-point links reaching approximately 40 km.

400G CFP2 BiDi Digital Coherent Optical Module Description

The BIDI-400G-CFP2-DCO is a CFP2-pluggable digital coherent optical module built for metro, long-haul, and data center interconnect networks. Line-side capacity is software-configurable across 100G, 200G, and 400G, letting network operators tune capacity and reach per link without swapping hardware.

The line side presents two dedicated LC/UPC connectors: one transmit port and one receive port, each carrying a full C-band tunable coherent signal across channels 13 to 61 on a 6.25 GHz flex grid. This gives operators fine-grained wavelength control for DWDM provisioning across the full C-band.

The module uses digital coherent optics with an integrated DSP, supporting DP-QPSK and DP-16QAM modulation. Higher-order 16-QAM modulation favors capacity at shorter reach, while QPSK favors longer reach at lower capacity, letting the operating point be tuned per link. On the client side, the module maps 100GbE, 200GbE, and 400GbE Ethernet signals as well as OTU4 and OTUC1 OTN framing onto the coherent line side.

Amplified DWDM configurations support reach up to 480 km, while unamplified point-to-point links support approximately 40 km, depending on the configured line rate and modulation format.

The module operates from a single +3.3V power supply with a maximum power consumption of 26 W, across an extended -5°C to 80°C temperature range. DDM/DOM digital diagnostics monitoring is supported for real-time visibility into optical parameters. The module is RoHS compliant.
