400G OSFP LR4 Optical Module: 400G-OSFP-10

400G OSFP LR4 Transceiver Overview
400G OSFP-10 is EDGE Optical Solutions' OSFP transceiver, not OSFP112, for 400 Gigabit Ethernet at 10 km over duplex single-mode fiber. It implements the 100G Lambda MSA 400G-LR4-10 specification, interoperable with the IEEE 802.3cu-2021 400GBASE-LR4-6 application at the 6 km overlap; no IEEE 802.3 clause standardizes an LR4 PMD at exactly 10 km. Four CWDM wavelengths, 1271, 1291, 1311 and 1331 nm, carry the PAM4 signal over a single duplex LC/UPC fiber pair with a 6.3 dB average link budget. The host electrical interface is 400GAUI-8, with an internal gearbox mapping eight 53.125 Gbps PAM4 electrical lanes to the four optical lanes, distinct from the native 400GAUI-4 interface used on EDGE's OSFP112-class 400G modules. Host-side RS-FEC, CDR and DDM are all supported. Unlike a parallel-MPO DR4-class module, which carries its wavelengths over MPO fiber for 4x100G breakout, this LR4 module multiplexes all four wavelengths onto one duplex fiber pair and is not a breakout candidate. It operates from 0 to 70C and draws a maximum of 10W from a single +3.3V supply.

400G OSFP LR4 Optical Module Description
The 400G OSFP-10 is an EDGE Optical Solutions OSFP transceiver, not OSFP112, for 400 Gigabit Ethernet at 10 km over duplex single-mode fiber. It implements the 100G Lambda MSA 400G-LR4-10 specification, interoperable with IEEE 802.3cu-2021's 400GBASE-LR4-6 at the 6 km overlap. No IEEE 802.3 clause standardizes an LR4 PMD at exactly 10 km.
Four CWDM wavelengths, 1271, 1291, 1311 and 1331 nm, carry the PAM4 signal over a duplex LC/UPC fiber pair. Average link budget is 6.3 dB. The EML transmitter runs −2.8 to 5.6 dBm launch power per lane with a 3.5 dB minimum extinction ratio. The PIN receiver averages −9.1 to 5.6 dBm sensitivity per lane, with 6.6 dBm overload.
Host electrical interface is 400GAUI-8, an internal gearbox mapping eight 53.125 Gbps PAM4 lanes to the four CWDM lanes; this differs from the native 400GAUI-4 interface used on EDGE's OSFP112-class 400G modules, which run no gearbox stage. Host-side RS-FEC is required at both ends, and CDR and DDM telemetry are supported. As a plain OSFP module it seats only in OSFP cages, not the mechanically different QSFP-DD port. Unlike a parallel-MPO DR4-class module, which carries wavelengths over MPO fiber for 4x100G breakout, this LR4 module multiplexes all four wavelengths onto one duplex fiber pair and is not a breakout candidate.
Operating temperature spans 0 to 70°C, storage runs −40° to 85°C at 5 to 85 percent relative humidity, and power draw is bounded at 10W from a single +3.3V supply. The finned top assists heat dissipation in airflow cooled chassis. Compliance covers CE, RoHS, Class 1 laser safety under FDA and IEC 60825-1, OSFP MSA and CMIS v4.0.
The 400G OSFP-10 is made to order and carries EDGE Optical Solutions' standard 5-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. For project quantity pricing or platform verification, contact our sales team.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the 400G OSFP LR4 require host FEC?
Yes. Host-side RS-FEC (KP4, RS(544,514)) is required at both ends of the link for the 100 Gbps-per-lane PAM4 CWDM4 signal. The module is rated Host FEC Supported; enable RS-FEC on the connected switch or router ports for a stable link.
Is the 10 km reach an IEEE standard?
The 10 km reach is not defined by an IEEE 802.3 PMD. It follows the 100G Lambda MSA 400G-LR4-10 specification, which is interoperable with the IEEE 802.3cu-2021 400GBASE-LR4-6 application at the 6 km overlap. No IEEE clause standardizes LR4 at exactly 10 km.
Can this LR4 module be broken out to 4x100G the way a DR4-class module can?
No. This LR4 module carries four CWDM wavelengths over a single duplex LC/UPC fiber pair rather than four parallel optical lanes, so it has no 4x100G breakout path. Breakout to 4x100G is a parallel-MPO DR4-class capability, not available on this LR4 module.
What CWDM wavelengths does the 400G OSFP LR4 use?
The transmitter multiplexes four CWDM wavelengths, 1271 nm, 1291 nm, 1311 nm and 1331 nm, onto a single duplex fiber pair.
