400G Multi-Rate OpenZR+ Coherent QSFP-DD DCO Transceiver Description
Our EDGEOPTIC 400G-QDD-DCO-MZRP is a multi-vendor compatible 400G Multi-Rate OpenZR+ coherent QSFP-DD DCO (Digital Coherent Optics) transceiver module designed for flexible long-haul networking applications requiring adaptive capacity over single-mode fiber infrastructure. The 400G-QDD-DCO-MZRP module employs advanced coherent transmission technology utilizing DP-16QAM (Dual Polarization 16-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) with software-selectable data rates of 100G, 200G, and 400G to achieve optimal reach-versus-capacity trade-offs. This tunable C-Band DWDM transceiver supports ITU-T grid channels 13 through 61 with 75 GHz or 100 GHz spacing, enabling flexible wavelength assignment and rate adaptation for diverse network deployment scenarios.
Our 400G Multi-Rate OpenZR+ coherent QSFP-DD transceiver utilizes an ITLA (Integrable Tunable Laser Assembly) transmitter providing precise wavelength control across the full C-Band spectrum, enabling software-defined wavelength and rate provisioning without hardware changes. The receiver section incorporates an ICR (Integrated Coherent Receiver) with advanced DSP processing for polarization and phase recovery. The module ensures a 12 dB guaranteed optical link budget, supporting transmission distances up to 2000 kilometers over amplified single-mode fiber spans at 100G rates, scaling down to approximately 50 kilometers unamplified at full 400G capacity. However, distance is an indicative parameter calculated for identification purposes – ultimately we calculate reach taking into account selected data rate, optical amplification architecture, fiber characteristics, and OSNR requirements of the deployed network.
The 400G-QDD-DCO-MZRP compatible coherent module is a hot-pluggable QSFP-DD form factor transceiver with duplex LC/UPC connectors as the optical interface. The electrical interface conforms to QSFP-DD MSA, CMIS V5.0, and OIF Coherent CMIS specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard QSFP-DD host systems across multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our 400G Multi-Rate OpenZR+ coherent QSFP-DD transceiver can be encoded for compatibility with latest platforms from leading vendors including Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Nokia, Huawei, and other major network equipment manufacturers. The module features integrated Forward Error Correction within the onboard DSP and incorporates CDR (Clock and Data Recovery) functionality. Multi-rate capability supports 400G Ethernet at 425 Gbps, 200G Ethernet at 212.5 Gbps, and 100G Ethernet at 103.125 Gbps for maximum deployment flexibility.
The transceiver includes DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) capability providing real-time operational parameters including transmitted and received optical power, OSNR monitoring, chromatic dispersion compensation status, module temperature, laser frequency, and current operating rate. This comprehensive diagnostic data is accessible via the CMIS-compatible management interface, enabling detailed monitoring of coherent transceiver health and optical path performance. The module operates within a 0 to 70°C commercial temperature range with maximum power consumption of 23W, requiring appropriate thermal management for sustained operation.
Standards compliance includes OpenZR+ MSA Implementation Agreement, QSFP-DD MSA, and OIF Coherent CMIS specifications. The transceiver achieves multi-vendor interoperability through adherence to industry-standard coherent specifications, though equipment with vendor-specific module authentication may require custom EEPROM programming for full compatibility. Our 400G Multi-Rate OpenZR+ coherent QSFP-DD transceiver is CE/RoHS certified.
Typical applications include continental backbone networks, submarine cable landing stations, ultra-long-haul terrestrial links, and networks requiring adaptive capacity based on route characteristics. The Multi-Rate capability enables operators to maximize capacity on shorter routes while extending reach on challenging long-haul paths using the same transceiver inventory. Because our focus is providing top quality service, we perform comprehensive quality verification before delivery including coherent optical parameter measurements at multiple rates, wavelength accuracy verification, connector cleanliness inspection, and QSFP-DD transceiver EEPROM memory validation tests.
