400GBASE-SR8 QSFP-DD Compatible Transceiver Description
Our EDGEOPTIC 400G-QSFP-DD-100 is a multi-vendor compatible 400GBASE-SR8 QSFP-DD optical transceiver module designed for high-capacity 400 Gigabit Ethernet applications over multimode fiber infrastructure. The 400G-QSFP-DD-100 module employs 8-lane parallel transmission technology operating at 850 nm wavelength, with each lane transmitting at 53.125 Gbps using PAM4 modulation to achieve an aggregate data rate of 425 Gbps. This parallel architecture delivers maximum bandwidth density for short-reach data center interconnects utilizing high-fiber-count MPO cabling systems.
Our 400GBASE-SR8 QSFP-DD transceiver utilizes VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) transmitters for each of the eight parallel lanes, providing cost-effective and power-efficient optical transmission optimized for multimode fiber. The receiver section incorporates PIN photodiodes optimized for 850 nm operation across all lanes. The module ensures a 1.9 dB guaranteed optical link budget, supporting transmission distances up to 100 meters over OM4 multimode fiber. However, distance is an indicative parameter calculated for identification purposes – ultimately we calculate reach taking into account minimal optical budget, modal bandwidth characteristics, and average attenuation of the deployed multimode fiber plant.
The 400G-QSFP-DD-100 compatible 400GBASE-SR8 module is a hot-pluggable QSFP-DD form factor transceiver with MTP/MPO-16 APC connector as the optical interface, utilizing 16 fibers (8 transmit, 8 receive) for parallel transmission. The electrical interface conforms to QSFP-DD MSA, CMIS V4.0, and IEEE 802.3bs specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard QSFP-DD host systems across multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our 400GBASE-SR8 QSFP-DD transceiver can be encoded for compatibility with latest platforms from leading vendors including Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Nokia, Huawei, and other major network equipment manufacturers. The module supports host-side Forward Error Correction and incorporates CDR (Clock and Data Recovery) functionality on all electrical lanes.
The transceiver includes DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) capability providing real-time operational parameters including transmitted and received optical power levels per lane, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. This diagnostic data is accessible via the CMIS-compatible management interface, enabling comprehensive monitoring of transceiver health and performance. The module operates within a 0 to 70°C commercial temperature range with maximum power consumption of only 8W, making it ideal for high-density top-of-rack deployments where thermal management is critical.
Standards compliance includes IEEE 802.3bs for 400 Gigabit Ethernet. The transceiver achieves multi-vendor interoperability through adherence to industry QSFP-DD MSA standards, though equipment with vendor-specific module authentication may require custom EEPROM programming for full compatibility. Our 400GBASE-SR8 QSFP-DD transceiver is CE/RoHS certified and compliant with Class 1 FDA and IEC60825-1 laser safety standards.
Typical applications include intra-rack and adjacent-rack interconnects, leaf-spine fabric connections, high-performance computing clusters, and storage area network links within data center environments. The SR8 architecture provides the lowest latency and power consumption option for ultra-short-reach 400G connectivity. Because our focus is providing top quality service, we perform comprehensive quality verification before delivery including optical parameter measurements across all eight lanes, connector cleanliness inspection, and QSFP-DD transceiver EEPROM memory validation tests.
