NOKIA (Alcatel) compatible 3HE04823AA Description
The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the Nokia (Alcatel-Lucent) 3HE04823AA 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver. It delivers 10GBASE-LR performance at 1310nm, covering up to 10km on single-mode fiber with a duplex LC/UPC connector. The module is EEPROM coded for Nokia SR OS platforms.
Transmitter uses a 1310nm DFB laser; receiver is a PIN photodiode. Link budget is 6dB over G.652 single-mode fiber. The module supports dual-rate operation at 1.25 Gbps (1000BASE-LX, 8B/10B) and 10.3125 Gbps (10GBASE-LR, 64B/66B encoding per IEEE 802.3ae).
This module is tested on Nokia 7750 SR, 7705 SAR, 7250 IXR, and 7210 SAS series platforms with SFP+ ports. Because the module EEPROM is programmed with Nokia-compatible vendor data, it is recognized by SR OS without generating unsupported-transceiver warnings.
Nokia uses the 3HE prefix for optical transceivers. The 3HE04823AA and 3HE04823AAAA01 are the same module with different part number lengths — the extended format (AAAA01) appears in some Nokia ordering systems and bills of materials. Nokia acquired Alcatel-Lucent in 2016; equipment branded as Alcatel-Lucent and current Nokia hardware use the same transceiver part numbers and EEPROM coding.
You can monitor TX/RX power, laser bias, temperature, and voltage through the SR OS command “show port [port-id] optical”. DDM thresholds and current readings display side by side. DDM is per SFF-8472.
MSA compliant per SFF-8431 (electrical), IEEE 802.3ae (optical), and SFF-8472 (DDM), with Class 1 laser safety per IEC 60825-1. CE and RoHS certified for commercial temperature range 0°C to 70°C.
The 3HE04823AA operates over G.652 single-mode fiber (OS1/OS2 compliant). Minimum link length is 2m; shorter patches risk receiver overload and need an inline attenuator. The module supports hot-swappable insertion in SFP+ cage types.
G.652 single-mode fiber has an attenuation of approximately 0.35 dB/km at 1310nm. Over a 10km span, fiber loss consumes about 3.5 dB of the optical power budget. Connector insertion loss runs 0.5 dB per mated UPC pair; fusion splices add 0.1 dB each. A 10km link with two connector pairs and a few splices consumes roughly 4.5–5 dB, leaving 1–1.5 dB of margin against the 6 dB budget.
10GBASE-LR covers enterprise and campus backbones, inter-building links, metro access and aggregation rings, carrier backhaul, and dark-fiber DCI. The 10km reach is sufficient for most metro and enterprise applications without moving to longer-reach ER or ZR optics. For spans near the 10km limit, measure installed attenuation with an OTDR or optical loss meter before commissioning.
LC connector endfaces should be inspected and cleaned before every mate. Contaminated or scratched connectors are a common cause of link degradation at 10G rates: a single particle larger than the mode field diameter can add several dB of loss. Use IEC 61300-3-35 visual inspection grading and dry or wet cleaning methods before installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 3HE04823AA and 3HE04823AAAA01?
Same module, different part number format. The extended 3HE04823AAAA01 shows up in Nokia’s procurement tools; the shorter 3HE04823AA is what most engineers reference in network designs.
What Nokia platforms support the 3HE04823AA?
The 3HE04823AA works on Nokia 7750 SR, 7705 SAR, 7250 IXR, and 7210 SAS series — any chassis with SFP+ ports. Line card slot types vary by model, so verify SFP+ support on your specific card.
Does the 3HE04823AA work in both Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia branded equipment?
Yes. Nokia acquired Alcatel-Lucent in 2016. Equipment branded as Alcatel-Lucent (e.g., older 7750 SR units) and current Nokia-branded hardware use the same transceiver part numbers and EEPROM coding.
