NOKIA (Alcatel) compatible 3HE04823AAAA01 Description
The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 directly replaces the Nokia (Alcatel-Lucent) 3HE04823AAAA01 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver. It operates at 1310nm over single-mode fiber with a 10km reach and a duplex LC/UPC interface. The module is Nokia EEPROM coded for SR OS platforms.
The transmit side uses a 1310nm DFB laser; the receive side is a PIN photodiode. Link budget is 6dB over G.652 single-mode fiber. The module supports dual-rate operation at 1.25 Gbps (1000BASE-LX) and 10.3125 Gbps (10GBASE-LR, 64B/66B encoding per IEEE 802.3ae).
Tested on Nokia 7750 SR, 7705 SAR, 7250 IXR, and 7210 SAS series platforms with SFP+ ports. Because the module EEPROM is programmed with Nokia-compatible vendor data, it is recognized by SR OS as a supported optic.
The 3HE04823AAAA01 is the extended Nokia part number format for the 3HE04823AA transceiver. The extended format (AAAA01 suffix) appears in Nokia procurement tools, bills of materials, and some platform configuration outputs. The shorter 3HE04823AA is what most engineers reference in network designs. Both are optically identical. Nokia acquired Alcatel-Lucent in 2016; equipment branded as Alcatel-Lucent and current Nokia hardware use the same transceiver part numbers.
You can monitor TX/RX power, laser bias, temperature, and voltage through the SR OS command “show port [port-id] detail”. DDM thresholds and current readings appear in the detailed port output. DDM is per SFF-8472.
MSA compliant per SFF-8431 (electrical), IEEE 802.3ae (optical), and SFF-8472 (DDM), with Class 1 laser safety per IEC 60825-1. CE and RoHS certified for commercial temperature range 0°C to 70°C.
Operates over G.652 single-mode fiber (OS1/OS2 compliant). On short patch runs, check that received power stays within the receiver’s overload threshold. Use an inline attenuator if needed.
G.652 single-mode fiber has an attenuation of approximately 0.35 dB/km at 1310nm. Over a 10km span, fiber loss consumes about 3.5 dB of the optical power budget. Connector insertion loss runs 0.5 dB per mated UPC pair; fusion splices add 0.1 dB each. A 10km link with two connector pairs and a few splices consumes roughly 4.5–5 dB, leaving 1–1.5 dB of margin against the 6 dB budget.
10GBASE-LR covers enterprise and campus backbones, inter-building links, metro access and aggregation rings, carrier backhaul, and dark-fiber DCI. The 10km reach is sufficient for most metro and enterprise applications without moving to longer-reach ER or ZR optics. For spans near the 10km limit, measure installed attenuation with an OTDR or optical loss meter before commissioning.
LC connector endfaces should be inspected and cleaned before every mate. Contaminated or scratched connectors are a common cause of link degradation at 10G rates: a single particle larger than the mode field diameter can add several dB of loss. Use IEC 61300-3-35 visual inspection grading and dry or wet cleaning methods before installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 3HE04823AAAA01 and 3HE04823AA?
Same module, different part number format. The extended 3HE04823AAAA01 shows up in Nokia’s procurement tools and BOM exports; the shorter 3HE04823AA is what most engineers reference in network designs. Both are optically identical and interchangeable on all Nokia SR OS platforms.
