2-Channel Single Fiber CWDM Line Termination Overview

EDGE Optics' SCLT-2 is a passive single-fiber CWDM OADM line termination unit that adds or drops 2 data channels (4 CWDM wavelengths, ITU-T G.694.2) from a single-fiber link. Available in mini-LGX or LGX housings, across five wavelength bands (1271-1331nm, 1311-1371nm, 1391-1451nm, 1471-1531nm, 1551-1611nm), with an optional 1310nm monitor window. Insertion loss runs as low as 1.8 dB (2.1 dB with the 1310nm window enabled), with LC/UPC connectors throughout.

2 Channels Single Fiber Passive CWDM Line Termination Unit Description

The SCLT-2-CFG is a passive single-fiber CWDM optical add/drop multiplexer configured as a line termination unit. It operates at one end of a single-fiber CWDM link, adding or dropping 2 data channels across 4 CWDM wavelengths per ITU-T G.694.2. This differs from the dual-sided SCAD-1-CFG and SCAD-2-CFG OADM units, which add and drop channels from both directions at an intermediate node along the link; the SCLT-2-CFG is intended for the edge of the link only.

Each unit ships in mini-LGX or LGX housing and is configured to one of five wavelength bands: 1271 to 1331nm, 1311 to 1371nm, 1391 to 1451nm, 1471 to 1531nm, or 1551 to 1611nm, using thin film filter technology with 20nm channel spacing and a ±6.5nm passband. Passband insertion loss is below 1.8dB without the 1310nm monitor window, or below 2.1dB with it enabled. Enabling that window adds a physical test and monitor access port at 1310nm and raises express-channel insertion loss from below 1.5dB to below 1.8dB. Adjacent and non-adjacent channel isolation is 30dB and 45dB, with 0.3dB passband ripple, 0.1dB PDL, 0.1ps PMD, 50dB directivity and 45dB return loss.

The unit handles up to 500mW of optical input, operates from -5 to 70C, and carries an MTBF rating of 1,000,000 hours. LC/UPC connectors are used throughout. The SCLT-2-CFG is CE and ISO certified, RoHS compliant, and built to the ITU-T G.694.2 CWDM wavelength grid.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the SCLT-2-CFG line termination unit and a dual-sided OADM like the SCAD family?

A line termination unit operates at one end of a single-fiber CWDM link, where the link terminates. The SCLT-2-CFG adds or drops 2 data channels across 4 CWDM wavelengths at that single point. A dual-sided OADM, such as the SCAD-1-CFG or SCAD-2-CFG, adds and drops channels from both directions at an intermediate point along the link, passing express traffic through in both directions. Do not substitute the SCLT-2-CFG for an intermediate drop point; it is built for the edge of the link only.

What changes when the 1310nm monitor window is enabled on the SCLT-2-CFG?

Enabling the 1310nm monitor window adds a physical port at 1310nm for test and monitoring access. This raises passband insertion loss from below 1.8dB to below 2.1dB, and express-channel insertion loss from below 1.5dB to below 1.8dB. Account for this loss increase in the link budget when selecting the monitor window at the time of configuration.

How does the SCLT-2-CFG insertion loss factor into overall link budget planning?

The SCLT-2-CFG itself contributes below 1.8dB to below 2.1dB of insertion loss depending on the monitor window configuration. Total link loss on a CWDM run also depends on fiber length, connector and splice losses, any other passive components in the path, and the optical budget of the transceivers on each end. Verify the total link loss against the transceiver power budget for the specific deployment before finalizing the design.

How do I choose between mini-LGX and LGX housing for the SCLT-2-CFG?

LGX is the standard-size cross-connect module housing format, and mini-LGX is a reduced-footprint variant of the same mounting format. The two housings differ in physical footprint. Choose based on available rack space and the port density needed for the deployment.
