Brocade compatible 10G-SFPP-SR-8 Description

EdgeOptic's 10G-SFPP-SR-8 compatible is a Brocade ICX-coded 10GBASE-SR SFP+ Ethernet transceiver for the Brocade ICX campus and data-center Ethernet switch platform. The -8 suffix is Brocade's Ethernet-platform coding for the ICX 7000-series switch fabric. It is distinct from the generic 10G-SFPP-SR SKU. The part is a 10GBASE-SR Ethernet SFP+ per IEEE 802.3ae Clause 52 at 10.3125 Gbps line rate, not a Fibre Channel optic: 10GFC parts on Brocade DCX SAN directors use B-series coding and the FC-PI-5 protocol at 10.518 Gbps on a separate platform. Host platforms include the Brocade ICX 7150, ICX 7250, ICX 7450, ICX 7650, ICX 7750 and ICX 7850 campus and data-center switches running FastIron OS.

Optical stage is a full 10GBASE-SR Ethernet part: 850 nm VCSEL transmitter, 850 nm PIN photodiode receiver, and a 6.1 dB link budget per IEEE 802.3ae Clause 52. Reach over duplex LC multimode fiber is 300 m on OM3 and 400 m on OM4, with approximately 82 m on OM2 and 33 m on OM1. The 10G rate is single-rate serial 10GbE and does not rate-select to 1GbE on the ICX SFP+ cages. Mechanical envelope is the SFP+ MSA (SFF-8432) with SFF-8472 digital diagnostics exposing TX power, RX power, laser bias current, supply voltage and case temperature. On FastIron OS the transceiver inventory is readable through 'show media' and the SFF-8472 DDM page is exposed through 'show media detail' on the ICX SFP+ uplink port.

EdgeOptic programs the EEPROM with Brocade ICX Ethernet identifiers so FastIron OS registers the module as a native 10G-SFPP-SR-8 on ICX 7000-series switches at port bring-up. The -8 Ethernet coding targets the ICX Ethernet-switch fabric and is specifically not interchangeable with the B-series 10GFC coding used on Brocade DCX SAN directors, where a 10GFC blade expects an FC-PI-5 10.518 Gbps optic rather than an 802.3ae 10.3125 Gbps Ethernet part. FastIron and Fabric OS also apply different firmware-revision policies. The module conforms to the SFP+ MSA and is CE/RoHS certified. Frequently Asked Questions

Is 10G-SFPP-SR-8 an Ethernet optic or a Fibre Channel optic?

10GBASE-SR Ethernet per IEEE 802.3ae Clause 52 at 10.3125 Gbps. The -8 suffix is Brocade's Ethernet coding for the ICX 7000-series platform. Brocade 10GFC SAN optics for DCX directors (such as XBR-000163) use B-series coding and FC-PI-5 at 10.518 Gbps and are a separate SKU class on a separate platform.

Which Brocade ICX switches accept 10G-SFPP-SR-8?

Brocade ICX 7150, ICX 7250, ICX 7450, ICX 7650, ICX 7750 and ICX 7850 campus and data-center Ethernet switches running FastIron OS. The -8 Ethernet coding targets the ICX 7000-series switch fabric; DCX SAN directors and 7800 extension switches are out of scope for this SKU.

How is diagnostic data read on the ICX SFP+ port?

FastIron OS exposes the transceiver inventory through 'show media' on the ICX, and the full SFF-8472 DDM page (TX/RX power, bias, voltage, case temperature) through 'show media detail' on the 10GbE SFP+ uplink port.
