Brocade compatible 10G-SFPP-SR-S Description

10G-SFPP-SR-S is a Brocade ordering variant of the standard 10G-SFPP-SR, carrying a platform-specific EEPROM qualification for ICX campus switch deployments. Brocade introduced the -S suffix to differentiate modules with a distinct vendor-data field in the A0/A2 EEPROM pages from the base 10G-SFPP-SR and the -S8 revision-specific variant. The optical performance across all three variants is identical: 10GBASE-SR over multimode fiber at 850 nm. However, Brocade and Ruckus firmware validate the suffix string during transceiver initialization and may report an unsupported-optic warning if the installed module does not match the expected suffix for that platform and firmware build.

Broadcom acquired Brocade in 2017 and divested the networking assets: ICX campus switching went to Ruckus Networks (now under CommScope), while VDX and MLXe data center/carrier platforms went to Extreme Networks. The 10G-SFPP-SR-S part number persists in Ruckus ICX compatibility matrices and remains the correct ordering code for ICX 7150, ICX 7250, ICX 7450, and ICX 7650 platforms. EdgeOptic's compatible module carries the -S EEPROM coding verified against current Ruckus ICX firmware releases, including FastIron 08.0.95 and later builds.

Transmitter: 850 nm VCSEL. Receiver: PIN photodiode. Connector: LC/UPC duplex. Minimum optical budget: 6.1 dB, giving 300 m on OM3 and 400 m on OM4 fiber. The module supports data rates from 1.25 Gbps to 10.3125 Gbps, covering 10GbE (IEEE 802.3ae) and GbE on ports that allow rate negotiation. DDM reports transmit and receive optical power, laser bias current, temperature, and supply voltage. Operating range: 0°C to 70°C. Typical power dissipation is 600 mW. Conforms to SFF-8431 and SFF-8432. The module is hot-swappable and supports both limiting and linear receiver modes per the SFP+ MSA electrical interface specification.

Brocade's 10G-SFPP-SR family includes three suffix variants: the base 10G-SFPP-SR (general-purpose), -S (ICX campus qualification), and -S8 (tied to specific ICX hardware revisions). All three are optically identical, differing only in EEPROM vendor-data fields. Ruckus documentation specifies which suffix applies to each ICX model and firmware combination, so verifying the correct variant before ordering avoids port-disable events during commissioning.

Every unit Each unit is verified against current Ruckus ICX firmware to confirm correct EEPROM vendor-data field acceptance on the target platform. CE and RoHS certified. For questions about specific ICX firmware compatibility, contact our sales team.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 10G-SFPP-SR and 10G-SFPP-SR-S?

Both are optically identical 10GBASE-SR modules. The -S suffix indicates a different EEPROM vendor-data field used for platform-specific qualification on certain ICX switch models. In practice, Brocade/Ruckus firmware may accept one SKU but flag the other as unrecognized, depending on the installed software version. Order the -S variant if your ICX platform's compatibility list specifies it.
