EdgeOptic's 10G-SFP-300 compatible is a Brocade-coded 10G USR (Ultra Short Reach) SFP+ that replaces the 10G-SFPP-USR-SA8. USR is a vendor-specific designation, not an IEEE 802.3 standard. It targets short intra-rack connections on Brocade ICX campus and data centre switches. The SA8 suffix identifies the firmware acceptance variant for a specific ICX firmware branch, distinct from the SA variant used on a different firmware branch. Brocade was acquired by Broadcom in 2017, and the ICX campus networking business was subsequently divested to Ruckus (CommScope). Despite the ownership changes, the ICX firmware still validates optics against Brocade-era vendor OUI codes. EdgeOptic programs the EEPROM with Brocade-recognized vendor data, so ICX switches accept the module without vendor-mismatch warnings.
