Cisco compatible Q100-ZR4-S-EA Description

EdgeOptic's Q100-ZR4-S-EA compatible is a Cisco-coded 100GBASE-ZR4 QSFP28 transceiver for 100Gb/s Ethernet over 80 km of duplex single-mode fiber. Cisco lists Q100-ZR4-S-EA as an alternate ordering PID for the same 100GBASE-ZR4 module covered by QSFP-100G-ZR4-S; same optical specification, different purchasing reference. The standard is MSA-extended from IEEE 802.3ba LR4: 4x25G NRZ direct-detection over a 4-channel LAN-WDM grid, with the link budget pushed to 30 dB to reach 80 km on G.652 SMF.

The four LAN-WDM channels sit at 1295.56, 1300.05, 1304.58 and 1309.14 nm and are multiplexed into a single LC duplex pair. EML transmitters at +2.0 to +6.5 dBm per lane average launch power deliver the headroom for the long reach; SOA+PIN receivers at -28 dBm/lane minimum sensitivity recover the signal at the far end. Receiver overload is -5.5 dBm/lane. Power class 8 (6 W max) per Cisco's Q100-ZR4-S-EA datasheet, commercial 0 to 70 °C operating range, 3.3 V supply.

EdgeOptic codes our Cisco-compatible optics with Cisco-recognized EEPROM, so the Q100-ZR4-S-EA compatible plugs into NX-OS, IOS XE and IOS XR platforms without the 'service unsupported-transceiver' command. Host RS-FEC (RS-528,514) is required at both ends of the link; ZR4 will not interoperate with a standard 100GBASE-LR4 endpoint, since LR4 does not enable FEC by default.

Q100-ZR4-S-EA is supported on the same Cisco platform families as the QSFP-100G-ZR4-S sibling PID. Refer to the Cisco Transceiver Module Compatibility (TMG) matrix for the chassis your Q100-ZR4-S-EA quote covers; line-card eligibility, IOS train minimum versions and per-slot port limits should be verified there before placing an order. If you have a procurement spec that calls out the QSFP-100G-ZR4-S PID, the optical specification is identical and the modules are interchangeable on the same fiber pair.

DOM is exposed via the standard SFF-8636 management interface, accessible through each platform's standard transceiver and optics diagnostic commands on NX-OS, IOS XE and IOS XR. Compliance covers CE, RoHS, Class 1 FDA / IEC 60825-1 laser safety, QSFP28 MSA, SFF-8636 and SFF-8665.

Frequently Asked Questions about Cisco Q100-ZR4-S-EA

Is the Q100-ZR4-S-EA the same module as the QSFP-100G-ZR4-S?

Both Q100-ZR4-S-EA and QSFP-100G-ZR4-S are Cisco PIDs for the same 100GBASE-ZR4 QSFP28 specification: 4-channel LAN-WDM at 1295-1309 nm, 80 km on G.652 SMF, host RS-FEC required, LC duplex. Q100-ZR4-S-EA is an alternate Cisco ordering PID for the same module; the optical specification is identical and the two are interchangeable on the same fiber pair. If your procurement records call out one PID and your installed-base shows the other, they are the same module.

How do I confirm Q100-ZR4-S-EA support on a specific Cisco chassis?

Use Cisco's Transceiver Module Compatibility (TMG) matrix and search for the Q100-ZR4-S-EA PID against your specific chassis model and IOS train. Q100-ZR4-S-EA covers the same 100GBASE-ZR4 application as QSFP-100G-ZR4-S and is supported on the same Cisco platform families, but the precise IOS minimum, line-card eligibility and per-slot port limits should be verified in TMG for the exact PID listed in your purchasing channel.
