Tunable 400G DWDM Coherent CFP2-DCO Module Description
Our EDGEOPTIC 400G-CFP2-DCO is a multi-vendor compatible, multi-rate coherent DWDM transceiver module in CFP2 form factor, designed for long-haul and metro DWDM network applications over single-mode fiber. The module supports 200G and 400G data rates using coherent modulation, operating as PM-QPSK (Polarization Multiplexed Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) at 200G or PM-16QAM (Polarization Multiplexed 16-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) at 400G. Reach is rate-dependent: over 640 km at 400G and over 2,000 km at 200G, both over standard single-mode fiber.
The 400G-CFP2-DCO utilizes an ITLA (Integrable Tunable Laser Assembly) transmitter shared between the transmit and receive paths, tunable across the full C-band (190.69375 to 196.65625 THz) on a 6.25 GHz grid with selectable 75 GHz or 100 GHz channel spacing. The receiver incorporates an ICR (Integrated Coherent Receiver) with onboard DSP for coherent signal recovery. Minimum receiver sensitivity is −21 dBm at an in-band OSNR of 34 dB or better, and beginning-of-life OSNR tolerance is 13.9 dB typical (14.5 dB max) at 200G and 20.7 dB typical (21.5 dB max) at 400G. The module presents a CFP2 MSA-compliant 104-pin electrical interface and can be configured as a MuxPonder, asynchronously mapping Ethernet or OTU4 client signals onto the coherent line signal, or as a TransPonder, synchronously mapping FlexO-framed clients via the FOIC1.2 or FOIC1.4 interface. Supported host signal types include 100GE, 400GE, OTU4, and 100G FlexO. Forward error correction and coherent digital signal processing are integrated in the module's onboard DSP, along with CDR (Clock and Data Recovery) functionality.
The 400G-CFP2-DCO provides DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) for real-time visibility into optical power, module temperature, and operating parameters via its management interface. The module operates within a 0 to 75°C case temperature range, with typical power consumption of 32W (36W maximum with the OTN framer enabled). It uses a single 3.3V power supply and LC duplex connectors for the optical interface. Management conforms to the CFP MSA Management Interface Specification v2.6, and the hardware follows the CFP2 MSA hardware baseline design.
Typical applications include data center interconnect, metro DWDM rings, and long-haul backbone links, where the dual-rate design lets a single module inventory cover both a higher-capacity 400G connection and a longer-reach 200G link depending on the route.
