Tunable 400G DWDM Coherent CFP2-DCO Module Description

EDGEOPTIC 400G-CFP2-DCO is a multi-vendor compatible coherent DWDM transceiver in CFP2 form factor for long-haul and metro DWDM applications over single-mode fiber. It runs dual-rate, PM-QPSK at 200G and PM-16QAM at 400G, with amplified reach to 2,000 km at 200G and 640 km at 400G over Double LC/UPC duplex connectors.

The ITLA transmitter is shared between the transmit and receive paths, tunable across the full C-band (190.69375 to 196.65625 THz) on a 6.25 GHz grid with 75 GHz or 100 GHz channel spacing. The receiver incorporates an ICR (Integrated Coherent Receiver) with onboard DSP for coherent signal recovery. Minimum receiver sensitivity is −21 dBm at an in-band OSNR of 34 dB or better, and beginning-of-life OSNR tolerance is 13.9 dB typical (14.5 dB max) at 200G and 20.7 dB typical (21.5 dB max) at 400G.

The module has a CFP2 MSA 104-pin electrical interface, with forward error correction and CDR integrated in the onboard DSP. It can be configured as a MuxPonder, asynchronously mapping Ethernet or OTU4 client signals onto the coherent line signal using GMP, or as a TransPonder, synchronously mapping FlexO traffic using BMP over an n x FOIC1.x interface. Supported host signal types include 100GE, 400GE, OTU4, and 100G FlexO.

The module provides DDM/DOM for real-time visibility into optical power, module temperature, and operating parameters. It operates within a 0 to 75°C case temperature range, with typical power consumption of 32W (36W maximum with the OTN framer enabled), from a single 3.3V power supply. Storage temperature range is −40 to 85°C with 15 to 85% relative humidity.

Compliant with the OIF-CFP2-DCO-01.0 Implementation Agreement and the CFP MSA CFP2 Hardware Specification, with management conforming to the CFP MSA Management Interface Specification Version 2.6, the module targets data center interconnect, metro DWDM rings, and long-haul backbone routes.

The module carries CE marking and RoHS compliance and meets Class 1 FDA and IEC 60825-1 laser safety requirements. For deployment planning or wavelength provisioning guidance, contact our sales team.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the 400G-CFP2-DCO and the 200G-CFP2-DCO?

The 400G-CFP2-DCO is EdgeOptic's dual-rate 200G/400G CFP2 coherent module, running PM-QPSK modulation at 200G and PM-16QAM at 400G, with amplified reach up to 2,000 km at 200G and up to 640 km at 400G. The 200G-CFP2-DCO is EdgeOptic's dedicated 100G/200G CFP2 coherent module, running DP-16QAM modulation with amplified reach up to 2,000 km and a maximum power draw of 24 W across a 0°C to 70°C range. Match the module to the line rate, reach, and power budget the deployment needs before ordering.

What is the difference between the 400G-CFP2-DCO and the BIDI-400G-CFP2-DCO?

Both modules use Double LC/UPC duplex fiber connections, not a single-fiber BiDi optical interface despite the BIDI naming. The main difference is reach: this 400G-CFP2-DCO supports amplified reach up to 640 km at 400G, while the BIDI-400G-CFP2-DCO is specified for amplified reach up to 480 km. Confirm the reach requirement for the route before choosing between the two.

Is the 400G-CFP2-DCO a MuxPonder or a TransPonder?

It can operate as either. In MuxPonder mode, the module asynchronously maps Ethernet (100GE/400GE) or OTU4 clients into the line DSP frame using GMP. In TransPonder mode, it synchronously maps FlexO traffic using BMP over an n x FOIC1.x electrical interface; this requires an OTN framer on the host to map the client signals to FlexO first. The supported host-format / line-side combinations are selected over MDIO.

What standards does the 400G-CFP2-DCO comply with?

The module is built to the OIF-CFP2-DCO-01.0 Implementation Agreement, which defines the CFP2 pluggable digital coherent optics interface, and to the CFP MSA CFP2 Hardware Specification for its mechanical and electrical baseline. This distinguishes it from CFP2-ACO (Analog Coherent Optics) modules, which place the coherent DSP function on the host line card instead of inside the module. It also meets CE, RoHS, Class 1 FDA, and IEC 60825-1 requirements.
